Saints on Defense Nick Foles will be playing against one of the top passing defenses in the league.

By Kevin McGuire The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the playoffs and they will be faced with one of the more lethal threats right out of the gate. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints make their way to Lincoln Financial Field Saturday night in the NFC Wild Card opener. The Eagles will have to have their defense in gear if the Eagles are going to win their first playoff game since the 2008 season and their first home playoff game since the 2006 season. Season Record The New Orleans Saints finished the 2013 regular season with a record of 11-5, one game better than the Eagles of course. New Orleans has struggled on the road though, especially coming down the stretch of the season. After escaping Atlanta with a 17-13 lead in late November, the Saints were pounded by the Seahawks in Seattle on a Monday night and dropped two games on the road at St. Louis and at Carolina before the year was up. This season, the Saints are 3-5 away from the Superdome, so perhaps there is a positive trend developing for the Eagles.
Saints on Offense The Saints will bring one of the NFL s top passing offenses to Philadelphia Saturday night. New Orleans ranks second in the NFL in passing offense and it all begins with quarterback Drew Brees. One of the top targets in that potent passing attack is Jimmy Graham, who accounted for 1,215 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns this season. Marques Colston added 943 yards as well, so the Eagles secondary will have their work cut out for them after the way Dallas picked apart the Eagles defense at times Sunday night. Where the Saints struggle is on the ground. las vegas vacation home rentals The running game ranks 25th in the NFL and the team s two leading rushers, Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram, have combined for just three touchdowns this season.
Saints on Defense Nick Foles will be playing against one of the top passing defenses in the league. New Orleans ranks second in the NFL in passing defense, allowing just 194.1 yards per game this season. While the Saints do not allow a lot of yards through the air, they also do not create too many turnovers. New Orleans has turned just 12 interceptions this season. Considering Foles has done well avoiding being picked off, that could be an advantage for the Eagles. The Saints are ranked 19th against las vegas vacation home rentals the run, so look for LeSean McCoy to once again be a key player in the game plan.
Key Players las vegas vacation home rentals Drew Brees, Quarterback : It goes without much saying that as Drew Brees goes, so do the Saints. Brees is a veteran quarterback who is smart and patient. He is not going to be easily rattled, having been through the playoffs a number of times before and winning a Super Bowl. However, Brees and the Saints have traditionally struggled on the road in postseason play. This season, Brees has passed for 5,162 yards and 39 touchdowns. If the Eagles defense struggles in coverage, Brees should be able to take advantage.
Brodrick Bunkley, Nose Tackle : Former Philadelphia Eagle Brodrick Bunkley lines up in the center of the Saints defensive line. After five years in Philadelphia, Bunkley played one season with Denver before joining New Orleans in 2012. He has gone the entire season (playing 12 games) without a sack. The Eagles should have no fear driving the offense straight ahead in Bunkley las vegas vacation home rentals s direction.
Overall The Eagles will have plenty of work to do to get the defense in gear. If they play the way they did against Chicago two weeks ago, they should be able to get by New Orleans, but if they play the way they did against Dallas they will not be as fortunate to get out of the game with a win. Drew Brees will be much more successful against the Eagles defense than back-up Kyle Orton was in the final game of the regular season. But if the Eagles can knock Brees off his game, then the Saints could quickly run out of options to try and keep up wit the Eagles offense.

The women s basketball team is playing in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, from Nov. 28-30 with Central Michigan, Duke, Kansas, Memphis, Syracuse, Texas A M and Texas. XU will play in three games (vs. Duke, Kansas and CMU) at the University of the Virgin Islands.
That s awesome southwest airlines discount tickets in itself, but there is a heck of a travel deal for Xavier fans, too. The team chartered a plane and has seats available for fans to purchase. It s only $850 round trip. (I remember paying much more than that when flying commercial when the men s team went there. And you would be flying direct.)
Sometimes teams split chartered flights to tournaments like these but XU is flying solo on a smaller plane. There are hotel packages to stay at the Frenchman s Reef or Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort, with game passes and travel southwest airlines discount tickets to and from the gym.
The Virgin Islands trip with the men s team was absolutely fantastic (except for the gecko that jumped on me at the pool). For information on joining XU s women there over Thanksgiving Day weekend and claiming a place on the charter, call Emily Hiscar at 513-745-3389 or email hiscare@xavier.edu.

Looking at the water and the beach wasn't enough for me, so I asked my brother to get some salt wate
Our first stop on the Disney Magic was onto Nassau, New Providence. When I first got off the cruise ship there was a strong tropical breeze (which I almost lost my hat to) which felt good on my face and in town I didn't like the uneven sidewalks as they scared me because of the bumpyness. The walkways and stores however are fully accessible sta travel with ramps throughout the towns sidewalks. We decided to tour the island and was lucky enough to have found one of a few wheelchair accessible sta travel taxis operated by a gentleman named Gerard.
Even though we were able to find one of the few wheelchair accessible taxi drivers, the van wasn't the most suitable for sightseeing as it was difficult for me to see above a certain angle inside, sta travel so you can say I saw half the island during the 2 hour tour. Nassau is a quaint coastal town, and the buildings are beautiful with their pastel colours.
On our final stop in the Bahamas we went to Disney's private island Castaway Cay (pronounced key). Which had beautiful sta travel beaches with gorgeous clear blue water. Transportation around the island is accessible, they had a tram that took us to four different stops around the island. sta travel Of the two trams I went on, only one felt safe to me as the ramp on one of the trams was too steep for my liking.
Looking at the water and the beach wasn't enough for me, so I asked my brother sta travel to get some salt water and splash it on me. For the first time in my life I felt the ocean water on me and it was cold and salty as advertised.
The weather was not the same as Nassau, it was a beautiful hot and sunny day which made me sweat like a dog. As we were on the ship leaving the island it was amazing to watch the island behind us drift further away from our eyes. Watching the ocean and the islands as the ship was moving on that night was relaxing and calming.
My father, who I know recognize has a wise man that there a number of years separating me from my yo
Continuing on my kids sports airline ticket search engine theme from yesterday, I m curious what folks think about travel sports. When I was a kid growing up in Richmond, it seems this mostly wasn t a thing. There were some recreational leagues through the YMCA and various local organizations in the younger years, then most of the sports went through the junior high schools that played the other ones in the city during the junior high years, and, then the high school athletic teams traveled around to other high schools.
Now, with soccer at least, there are travel teams that seem to start at 9 or 10 years old. They travel around to other parts of the state and even do tournaments in Illinois and Ohio, I think. If you re grooming your kid to be an elite athlete, I guess I can see this. Expanding the pool of competitors allows the best to play the best. But beyond that, I think I m missing the point. My goal with my kids and their athletics is mostly airline ticket search engine to get them exercising, developing coordination and motor skills, airline ticket search engine learning some things about teamwork and competition, getting airline ticket search engine to spend some time with them (as a coach), and if there is time left over have a little airline ticket search engine fun.
The other kids in town provide plenty of competition to accomplish those goals. Still, plenty of people I know and respect, both friends and family, are getting their kids into the travel leagues. I have trouble seeing how travel versus local contributes anything additional beyond expense and time commitments.
I played travel soccer growing up first in Virginia and then in Indiana. The level of competition is better than in high schools and also has different seasons, so athletes can stay with it year round, but I tend to remember my parents revealing the costs about 10 years after and was rather amazed.
I only played soccer one year. It was in a small southern town. We were the only team in the league, so we had to travel away for every game. We weren t that good and the other teams more or less considered us an exhibition match. We probably lost half of our games, but we were technically undefeated airline ticket search engine in our league airline ticket search engine (as the only team in it), so we won 1st place. :D
Normally, it just burns a Saturday by getting up at 5am getting home around 6pm. The last tournament of the year, though, is a 2-day affair that either requires a hotel stay or driving early twice in the weekend. We usually opt for the hotel so the parents can have beer pizza while the kids get to run around the hotel annoy the other guests. (I could write a whole blog about the inner conflict I have going on there as a frequent business traveler and also being that parent )
For my 12 year old girl, this club is required if she wants to play VB in 7th grade. Not that the coach says she has to, but if she doesn t, the girls that do go to club will have weeks of practice and be playing a such a higher level that she will never be able to make the team.
The clubs are stratified so that you have an obvious A, B, and perhaps C and D team, if there are enough girls playing. The goal of the clubs is primarily to groom girls to play at either Columbus North or Columbus East, depending on which club you go with. This is NOT a pay to play league. You are able to pay to have a spot on a team, but you should be clear that the #1 goal is to build a winning HS team, and the #2 goal is to win games. The #3 goal is for the girls own development, but keep in mind: While they do make sure each girl gets SOME play time, the winning girls will be on the court more.
Don t take my comments the wrong way: I get what the deal is, and since I m supportive of my daughter playing in 7th grade for her school, I m willing airline ticket search engine to deal with the parts I don t care for. I don t tell the coaches that my daughters should have more court time because I get what their goals are, and I agreed to pay. I also pay FAR less than a non-HS affiliated club would cost, although I m not aware of any in Columbus that aren t associated with a HS. I know this exists in Louisville Indianapolis, and there are levels of clubs that travel airline ticket search engine NATIONALLY with girls that are the same age as mine.
My son is entering his 8th year of travel baseball. He started when he was a 7 year old All Star . He fell in love and never looked back. He s now added AAU basketball. I feel like I m pushing, but when he s the one tracking schedules airline ticket search engine and making sure I know when he needs to be at a workout I don t feel so bad.
However, the kids love the sports. The friendships they make meeting people from other towns that they have become really good friends with. The friendships my wife and I have made. It all makes it worth it.
The key is, IMO, perspective. If it s all about winning then you re in the wrong program. Learn, get better, learn to compete and persevere. Winning will come. We ve been blessed with wonderful airline ticket search engine organizations, coaches, and teammates. I know there are stories from the other side and I often think about the things we ve missed, but we ve also experienced things that some other families can t dream about. The stories we regularly tell from our baseball trips to North Carolina and Tennessee. Or even those from just this one season of volleyball. Memories for a life time.
Let me clear one thing up regarding winning vs development from my comments: Winning is certainly second to developing skills at the team level. Both teams have played against teams that are older or in a longer-season club and have been destroyed. airline ticket search engine They have grown stronger because of that. They certainly could have found better matched clubs to play, and won more, but growing the collective skills of the team was #1.
My point was that the clubs were not an equal time deal. If the #1 goal was *personal* development, each girl would have the same time on the court, and perhaps not even be specialized to position. They would each have the same amount of serves, etc.
My girls each had an average amount of time on the court, airline ticket search engine so this isn t a bitter complaint from my side, but more as an observation. There were certainly girls who play nearly airline ticket search engine the whole game, and there are other girls that almost never serve, or have 1/6 of the game time.
I feel I m a moderate when it comes to most issues, but when it comes to school sports, I m a socialist. If tax money is being used to support school sports, and if the whole point is that school airline ticket search engine sports airline ticket search engine build crucial skills, then school sports should allow any kid that wants to play to be able to with equal play time, or at least have the play time determined by their effort and not their genetics.
My only disagreement would be school sports. At some point it does have to become about winning and I think varsity level is that point. Most good programs will make their MS, frosh, and JV kids are getting plenty of minutes.
There is already this traveling club infrastructure that goes all the way to the national level. I simply suggest we allow it to become airline ticket search engine the real play to win sport, and we change HS sports to play to learn and have fun sports only.
My father, who I know recognize has a wise man that there a number of years separating me from my youth, has stated multiple times that we spent too much time as children involved in travel/all-star sports.
Interestingly enough, between me and my 2 siblings (1 brother 1 sister) the one who was the most successful HS athlete was my brother, (7 or 8 varsity letters in 2 sports) who was also the one deemed not good enough to be on youth travel/all-star teams.
The number of parents airline ticket search engine that interact with (having 2 boys under the age of 12) who are chasing the elusive college scholarship simply don t realize airline ticket search engine the odds against it. Especially when mom and dad are under 5 6 and slow.
So, I guess my question is whether the element of geographic distance airline ticket search engine adds much value. airline ticket search engine For a lot of communities, my suspicion is that absent travel teams local programs would develop that have everything except geographic distance and there would be some diminishment in the level of competition.
Paddy hits on my biggest concern. Would I do it again? Yes. But I might force him to cut back. Someone asks him to play he ll play my one change would be saying no occasionally to allow us to do the non-sports that we enjoy.
Travel teams are only for top squads and draw only a few hand-select players from all of the park teams. All of Indianapolis should produce airline ticket search engine only one, maybe two, travel airline ticket search engine teams. Travel teams are supposed to be so good that an adult would enjoy the game. 9 or 10 is far too young to field a legitimate travel team.
It has been years (~15) since my son and daughters were playing airline ticket search engine sports. airline ticket search engine Local teams seemed good enough for (as Doug puts it) the goals of coordination, team spirit, exercise and fun. The few travel teams back then would be for the elite. Naturally most of us want to think of our kids as elite thus there is a pressure to join the travel airline ticket search engine teams. I am sure that the travel teams are nice to be part of and I do not begrudge anyone s enthusiasm for them but realistically for 95%+ of the kids then local should be good enough. My wife and I have fond memories of many days and nights spent at our kids s games and practices with friendships made across our local community.
I do think that the attitude of join the travel team or not be qualified for being on a school team could be counter-productive to equality in society. It is undoubtedly true that playing, via the travel teams, against other highly skilled players sharpens a person s ability. But what about the natively skilled kid whose parents are too poor or too apathetic to allow them to be on a travel team? Do we just cut them out of the school s team? Ah well, that concern could be applied to almost anything in life and, one hopes, the truly skilled and highly motivated person will find a way to rise to the top. Hard scrabble will always be a part of being human.
I have a daughter who has played travel basketball for several years and has now switched to soccer. I was and remain very skeptical of the whole thing. I d m

The latest top sports craze in the mid-Columbia River Gorge seems to be stand-up paddling, according to reader votes in a "best of Hood River" campaign on OregonLive.com. It wasn't los angeles weather forecasts overwhelming, but it was decisive because so many other non-trail outdoor activities split the vote.
Steve Gates, owner of Big Winds board shop in Hood River, just goes with the flow. ( He practices what he preaches , too; click to see a photo of him in action.) In his 28 years in the business, he's progressed through windsurfing (late 1980s), to kite surfing (mid-'90s) and now to stand-up paddling los angeles weather forecasts in the past few years.
He says his business is evenly split these days, with about a third each for kite, wind and stand-up. But stand-up paddling is more on an upward trajectory because it can be an "every person's" sport, unlike the other two. And it has a much higher female participation rate than the big wind sailing sports.
Big Winds rents about 60 boards at its shop, in downtown Hood River at 207 Front St. ( bigwinds.com los angeles weather forecasts , hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in summer), with another 80 boards available seasonally down on the beach. That's where Gates runs his water sports school, at the Hood River Event Site.
Anyone can get a stand-up paddle board and teach themselves, said Gates, but to get the benefit of a full-body workout, he suggests beginners take some lessons. Entry level equipment purchase is about $800 for a starter board and paddle.
los angeles weather forecasts The nice thing about stand-up paddle boarding, compared to the other sports, is that can be done with no wind. It can also be done in big winds, as a down-wind sport with a shuttle to the start and finish.
Around town: Flying kites, golfing at Indian Creek and Hood River golf courses, soaring with Cascade Soaring, sightseeing flights with Classic Wings Aero Services, triathlon, rugby, horse riding, rock climbing at Horesthief Butte, driving mountain roads.

We launched our raft into the swift moving current and grabbed the paddles to quickly navigate towards river center and line up for the rapid. The river flow was picking up speed as we neared the tongue of this monstrous mix of boiling, turbulent, whitewater. My excitement u2 vertigo fall tour to again be on Colorado River adventure gave way to more rational thinking of “what the heck am I doing here?” as I observed the massive river waves, seemingly taller than us, quickly creeping closer.
This rapid was Lava Falls , the biggest, u2 vertigo fall tour baddest, most feared and most talked u2 vertigo fall tour about rapid on this 277-mile rafting adventure. It is rated between 8 and 10 on a scale that only goes to 10. That is a big rapid! We were well into our second week in the canyon and were all ‘tuned in and going with the rivers flow’ by this time. That also meant we had two weeks to think about Lava Falls and ‘guesstimate’ what type of ride the rapid would give us at this water level. For me, I wondered what action photos I could capture u2 vertigo fall tour from within the boat. Would I have to hang on for dear life or could I snap away?
I was comforted in knowing that my longtime buddy Brian, our boatmen and owner of an Oregon rafting company , was well experienced in navigating through the maze of holes and huge curling waves that we were about to enter. Once we reached river center, Brian told us to stow our paddles and hold on as he took full control of the oars. His plan to was to enter the rapid just to the right of Ledge Hole, a bus-size crater of re-circulating water that can leave a raft or kayak stuck or easily flip either.
Eagerly following his suggestions, I quickly moved to the rear of the boat and set myself on the pile of dry bags carefully strapped in. This position was slightly higher than the bench seat and provided a good shooting perspective of the boat, Brian rowing, and the impending hurricane of whitewater waves. I wrapped u2 vertigo fall tour my left hand around the boat straps like a cowboy preparing to ride a bull and reached for my camera. u2 vertigo fall tour It was secure in a Ewa Marine Underwater Housing that was tied to the boat with a loop of climber’s rope and a carabiner. This ensured the safety of my camera if things get crazy, but also serves as a lifeline should I get tossed into the river I can pull myself back to the raft.
As we entered the rapid, I confirmed my hold on the boat strap and camera and attempted to frame the scene through my cameras viewfinder, which was awkward when looking through the underwater housing, but necessary to keep Brian and the boat centered in the frame. We hit our first large wave which swamped all of us and from there all seemed a blur! I started shooting u2 vertigo fall tour as we found ourselves dropping into a hole before immediately seeing blue sky as we climbed the side of the next wave. Brian constantly pushed and pulled the oars in an effort to keep the bow facing the large waves. During what seemed like an eternity, the raft tipped right and left, up and down as we bashed our way through Lava Falls and I continued pressing the shutter in rapid succession to capture all the action.
In reality, u2 vertigo fall tour the ride through Lava Falls took barely a minute before we washed out at the end of the rapid, soaked, dripping, and yelling a whoop, followed by the customary high-fives. Then I hopped to the bow of the boat where my Pelican case was clipped in and grabbed my other camera with the 300mm lens. I immediately began shooting the action of the remaining 3 boats and two kayakers as they appeared and disappeared in the churning waves of Lava Falls. Once they were all through and had reached the slack water of the river eddies, we had another brief celebration before rowing back into the slow meandering river flow on our way to find a campsite. Most days spent rafting the Grand Canyon are similar with plenty of rapids of all sizes mixed with slow and lazy sections.
While many photographers make the trip to the viewpoints that dot the North and South Rim of the Grand Canyon and capture its awe inspiring grandeur, they rarely get more than a glimpse of the Colorado River as it snakes its way through the canyon. While being on top is an amazing experience, it’s the river that winds through the Grand Canyon that provides a whole new world for the adventurous nature photographer. Placing your self at the mercy of the river aboard u2 vertigo fall tour a raft as it winds through the great depths of the Grand Canyon is an unparalleled experience. I have had the good fortune to raft the Colorado River through the canyon three times and each a 21-day private trip providing totally different experiences every time.
While the excitement of rafting some of the best whitewater in North America is a draw in itself, it is the limitless photographic opportunities that are a reason all their own. From the towering canyon walls and unusual geology, the canyon is blessed with a diversity found nowhere else. There are huge caverns and slot canyons all carved by water over eons, some contain waterfalls, hanging gardens, seeps, and springs.
Plant species are diverse with over 120 vegetation communities in the canyon. Along the river and its tributaries exists a vibrant riparian community including willow, western honey mesquite, catclaw acacia, and tamarisk are the most common u2 vertigo fall tour species. Cacti can be found pretty close to the river and in the upper reaches of the canyon including; California barrel, fishhook, beavertail, desert prickly pear, hedgehog, and cholla. Wildlife are common from deer to bighorn sheep, birds and frogs, and a wide variety of lizards, including the elusive u2 vertigo fall tour Chuckwalla. Like much of the American Southwest, the canyon was inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4000 years and remnants of their presence can be found in many areas.
u2 vertigo fall tour While nature’s bounty is abundant for the photographer, the human element is just as important when documenting the full Grand Canyon rafting experience. While you can capture exciting point-of-view perspectives u2 vertigo fall tour of the whitewater action from within the raft, the rivers edge is often close enough to the rapids allowing close-in action shots of a kayaker in a rapid or a fisherman in a shallow pool.
Campsites are often on long sandy beaches and here there are opportunities for photography that tells the story of camp life, an important aspect of a Grand Canyon adventure . Keeping an eye on your fellow u2 vertigo fall tour rafters around camp can result in great storytelling images. For example, images I have captured include a fellow rafter sitting high on a rock and playing his flute whose melodic rhythms echoed across the canyon. Another image was a trip participant sitting in a chair with his feet soaking u2 vertigo fall tour in the rivers edge while reading a book. Yet another participant sat in the opening of her tent bathed in golden sunrise light while sipping the morning coffee. As the sun sets you can capture u2 vertigo fall tour images like reading by a headlamp, the glow of a small campfire, and a tent lit up by lantern.
Within the Grand Canyon there are many treasures worth exploring with your camera. You can day hike up countless side canyons spread u2 vertigo fall tour along the trip and some of the more notable are Deer Creek with its magnificent waterfall along the rivers u2 vertigo fall tour edge. A hike up Deer Creek Canyon presents many photographic opportunities from the slot canyon of Deer Creek above the falls, to the smaller cascades along the upper creek. u2 vertigo fall tour A favorite among river runners and photographers is Elves Chasm, u2 vertigo fall tour a small grotto ¼ mile from the river where a small water cascade slides down the rock wall surrounded by moss and ferns, something u2 vertigo fall tour seemingly u2 vertigo fall tour rare in this hot and dry environment. And then there is Havasu Creek, known as the “blue-green water” that flows from the infamous Havasu Falls , 10 miles upstream and where many river runners often make the all-day loop hike.
While the canyon presents something new and unique each day and along every section of the river journey, the desire to stay in one place like you have discovered the Garden of Eden, is understandable. But like life in general, there is a schedule to be kept and the time to move on arrives. We camped a few miles below Lava Falls that night and had our boats packed by mid-morning the next day before u2 vertigo fall tour beginning our last week through the canyon. Today the rapids were smaller but just as exciting and I decided to shoot using another of my favorite u2 vertigo fall tour approaches. Here I will put on my kayaking helmet and tuck down in the bow of the boat with my underwater setup. This approach allows me to look up at the boatman and passengers u2 vertigo fall tour and shoot every wave as they splash across the boat.
A rafting trip through the Grand Canyon is an incredible u2 vertigo fall tour experience! Photographing the abundance of scenery, flora and fauna, and the adventure easily u2 vertigo fall tour makes it a photographer’s trip of a lifetime. u2 vertigo fall tour There are not many places anymore where you cannot stay ‘connected’ and are forced to leave the outside world behind and become one with the river and the canyon. The trip is a true life experience full of nature and adventure and photo opportunities you will treasure forever.
There are many ways to raft the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. You can take a take a private trip or a commercial trip and it depends on how you wish to raft. Commercial trips vary in length depending on the river section and can last from 1 day to 18 days. Private trip permits are issued u2 vertigo fall tour for 2 to 25 days and the length of the trip is also dependent on the river section.
Choosing a private trip versus a commercial trip is not a tough decision. If you prefer a private 3 week trip and want to invite your friends, are you or they qualified river runners capable of guiding rafts through some difficult and challenging whitewater? Or like me, do you have friends who are qualified and have all the equipment? Beside technical rafting requirements, u2 vertigo fall tour a private trip includes shared responsibilities among participants. This means everyone helps with loading and unloading boats, cooking, cleaning, and other camp chores and this can cut into your photography time.

The tube is in fact the oldest and arguably the best subway system in the world, and I d say it s un
I ve been to London about 10 times in the past 26 years and find it one of the very best places to visit in the world. It is loaded with history, great museums, interesting walks and some of the nicest people in the world. Recently I spoke with a friend who s worked for an airline taste of chaos tour pictures for 30 years, yet had never been to London because they were uncertain about getting around, different food, different customs, different money, etc. I told her that (to paraphrase Oscar Wilde and George taste of chaos tour pictures Bernard Shaw), taste of chaos tour pictures the USA and England are two nations divided by a common language . Beyond a few words and the accents being different, Britain taste of chaos tour pictures and USA have much in common. It is perhaps the easiest taste of chaos tour pictures country to visit for a first time because of this.
London s weather has few extremes, as the average high in January is 47 degrees and 75 degrees in July. Despite its reputation taste of chaos tour pictures for rainy weather London gets less rain each year (24 inches) than Minneapolis (28 inches) and way less than Boston (44 inches). A friend moved there in the summer of 1980 and related the following taste of chaos tour pictures story: After enjoying several beautiful summer days with no humidity and highs in the low-80 s he picked up a local paper and saw the following headline, Heat-wave Continues! No End In Sight! . Few homes have AC and they simply aren t used to warm weather.
London is as far north as Edmonton (Canada), and as such has long days in the summer taste of chaos tour pictures and short days in the winter. Sunny days are far more common in the summer taste of chaos tour pictures months, though I ve always found non-reving in the summer much more difficult because the flights tend to be full then. I have lucked out on several occasions and been in England for as long as 10 days in a row in the winter without taste of chaos tour pictures seeing a drop of rain but then again, on several trips it was gloomy taste of chaos tour pictures and rainy every day without fail. But there s enough to do so it hardly matters
London was a Roman city (called Londinium ) that was originally settled almost 2000 years ago around 50 AD. By the 2nd century AD it boasted a population of 60,000 and was the capital of Roman Britain. After the fall of the Roman Empire the city declined and was all but abandoned by 800 AD. The Normans invaded England in 1066 and soon moved the capital and royal court form Winchester to London. As England s empire grew, so did the size and power of the city. Most of medieval London burned in 1666 (the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey were spared), and consequently the city was rebuilt using something of a city plan with wider streets and parks, in stark contrast with other English cities such as Salisbury and York which have very narrow streets in their centers to this day. London s population exploded from 1 million people in 1800 to 6.5 million in 1900 to 8 million taste of chaos tour pictures today, and the city became and still is one of the world s foremost financial taste of chaos tour pictures capitals and tourist destinations.
My first visits to London were via Gatwick Airport, about 35 miles to the south of London. It now costs 32 pounds (at $1.64 a pound, thus about $50) to take the Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station taste of chaos tour pictures in central London where you can get on the London Underground (affectionately called the tube ). . The last 5 years I ve been able to fly into Heathrow Airport (15 miles west of downtown London) taste of chaos tour pictures and consider it a much better taste of chaos tour pictures alternative to Gatwick taste of chaos tour pictures because taste of chaos tour pictures the tube goes from Heathrow into London. The tube costs about 8 pounds a day to ride as much as you want, including the trip to and from Heathrow. Getting cash is now easy in London as you can find cash machines from the moment you get to the airport.
NOTE: Like many big cities, London has those that prey on tourists. On our first trip in 1987 my sister-in-law had her bag stolen right out from under our noses at Victoria Station, so keep a close eye on your belongings.
taste of chaos tour pictures The tube is in fact the oldest and arguably the best subway system in the world, and I d say it s unimaginable to envision London without it. When you first get to a tube station I recommend getting an Oyster card (a tube access card that is also good for busses and trains) for 3 pounds; it can have money added to it (say 25 pounds for starters) and the money is deducted from the card when you pass it over a sensor when you enter or leave a tube station. taste of chaos tour pictures If you have money left on it, the card will work for many years later if/when you visit again. taste of chaos tour pictures Before your trip I recommend finding a London tube map online, printing it out and bringing it along so you re familiar with the system layout beforehand.
The tube is occasionally crowded, especially during rush hour or peak shopping times. On our first trip in 1987 we got on a train near Harrod s department store and a large crowd squeezed in and we were quite squished together for a few minutes. I ended up face-to-face with my sister-in-law and we were so squeezed together that I joked that I d been closer to her during those 5 minutes than I d ever been with my wife!
I have usually stayed west of central London in the Paddington, West Kensington, Gloucester Road or Earl s Court area. Options can be found online or you can book a room at tourist offices at any of the major rail stations (such as Paddington or Victoria). Keep in mind that London is a fairly expensive city to visit and $100 or more for a 3-star hotel is to be expected and could be a good deal. Make sure you note the nearest tube stop to your hotel so you can get there as quickly as possible. It s nice to be close to a tube stop on the one hand, but too close can be a problem because in one case I was almost on top of the station taste of chaos tour pictures and could hear and feel the trains underneath the hotel.
Many hotels include a full English Breakfast with the room, and this usually includes eggs, bacon (more like ham), toast, beans, a fried tomato, mushrooms and cereal. It s worth about 8-10 pounds. The last few years I ve seen that some of the deals I ve found on the internet do not include breakfast, so keep that in mind.
London has so much to do that you could write about book about it, and many have. Depending upon the weather and how long you visit you ll want to have some inside days planned taste of chaos tour pictures because London is not necessarily known for its nice, sunny weather: Bring an umbrella taste of chaos tour pictures no matter what and plan for some rain or drizzle. And go to some of the world s greatest museums, several of which I d strongly recommend:
1) The British Museum Northeast of the Holborn tube stop, this is considered the best museum in Britain and perhaps one of the best of the world. I have gone there several times and can walk around for hours and never cease to be amazed, with items such as the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian, Roman and Greek statues, relics from the middle east and around the world and it s free to get in Oddly enough, more than half of what you ll find in the British Museum is not British at all, rather taste of chaos tour pictures it was collected and brought to Britain during taste of chaos tour pictures the height of British imperial power. You can also find a copy of the Magna Carta, the Lindow Man and other British historical taste of chaos tour pictures artifacts.
2) The National Gallery Found overlooking Trafalgar Square, just south of the Leicester Square tube stop, this is Britain s finest art museum and is also free. It houses taste of chaos tour pictures many of Britain s best works of art, not to mention it usually has some visiting shows. I d give a visit to the National taste of chaos tour pictures Gallery a couple hours, because after that all of the standing taste of chaos tour pictures and shuffling from room to room can result in a bad case of museum feet , which means you just have to get to a pub (see below) taste of chaos tour pictures and sit down!
3) The Victoria and Albert Museum A few blocks taste of chaos tour pictures northeast of the South Kensington tube stop, this is another great museum filled with art, artifacts and English cultural taste of chaos tour pictures items. Some exhibits have a charge, but otherwise it s free. And if you re in the area, the Natural History Museum is across the street.
London has a large theater district with dozens of shows on stage on any given day, with a quality to rival Broadway at less than half the price. And the price gets even better if you buy tickets on the day of the performance from a half price ticket store , of which you will find many in the Leicester Square taste of chaos tour pictures area. I have gone there in the morning taste of chaos tour pictures and bought tickets for a show that evening several times, including Spamalot taste of chaos tour pictures a few years ago where we got nosebleed seats for 20 pounds each. And I mean nosebleed seats: We were on the 6th level and were literally looking down on the stage but it was still a great show!
As you might expect, London has quite a few pubs, many thousands to be sure. I have always made sure to visit many pubs when I m in London (or anywhere in Great Britain for that matter) and enjoy trying beers that I can t find in the USA. The atmosphere and character of the typical English pub is alone worth the trip to London.
You may have heard that people drink warm beer in England, which is categorically not true! The English have cask ales , beers which are drawn up with a hand pump (thus they are less carbonated) and are stored at cellar temperature taste of chaos tour pictures ie., around 50-54 degrees. Not ice cold for sure, but not warm. Ale lovers will tell you that if a beer s too cold it has little taste, but English ales are as tasty as they come.. Other beers (on tap or in a bottle/can) are refrigerated like in the USA.
Many pubs in London (and all of England) are owned by large breweries (Bass, Fullers, Marstons, etc.) and will offer their ales and lagers along with the same standard offerings (Guinness, a hard cider, Stella, Heineken and perhaps Budweiser). While I like many of those beers, taste of chaos tour pictures it wouldn t be London if I didn t try others as well. And most pubs display the alcohol content of the beers they have on tap, which is nice to know.
Pubs are an integral part of the social fabric in England: People meet at pubs on a regular basis (after work or the weekend) and are the primary social gathering spots for many. Others watch football (aka soccer) or other sports, play darts and enjoy those a

Rather than spend the evening just hanging out at the hotel, I'd like to go into London - maybe go to a museum or do something. Dinner at the hotel is included in what we've already paid, so we might grab an early dinner and then leave.
Elen, the Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square (next to the huge National Gallery) is open until 9. It's an excellent museum experience in a smallish venue which would leave you plenty of time to enjoy the Square which is always lively.
If you are at the hotel by 5-ish you'd be able to make a 7 or 7:30 curtain but not if you stop for dinner. Jeeves/Wooster is playing on st martins lane so you could take the tube to Covent Garden - From hatton cross or you hounslow and not have to go to LHR.
When I said "the Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square (next to the huge National avis rental cars unlimited mileage truck Gallery) is open until 9,"I should avis rental cars unlimited mileage truck have said on Thursday and Friday nights. The National avis rental cars unlimited mileage truck Gallery is open till 9 on Friday only.
Those of you who have seen Jeeves and Wooster - the only seats I think we can afford either have a restricted view (just six or seven rows from the stage, but at the ends of the aisles in the stalls) or are in the front row where we would have to look up at the stage.
The Duke of York's is not a huge theatre but I would rather be up close than farther back because the seats aren't very raked and heads always seem to be in the way. Anywhere in the first 5 or 6 rows should be fine. I haven't avis rental cars unlimited mileage truck sat in the front row there but I don't think the stage is very elevated.
BTW - we used TKTS on May 9 (a friday) and got Row L for nearly half price. And that was for three together. If there were only two of us we could have been in row F center stalls. (I tried to get the other girls to do a split booking but they wanted me to to do it for them and TKTS won't allow split seats for one purchaser)
The (in) famous Trocadero Centre, one of the world's largest entertainment avis rental cars unlimited mileage truck cmplexes avis rental cars unlimited mileage truck is open until late very night IME - free to enter and take in all the action - not everyone's cup of tea but if you have adolescent kids parking them there for a few hours could be one of the highlight's of their trip - and you can go have a bitter or two at a nearby pub!

Theatremonkey.com says the stage is slightly elevated, but I think we'll be OK. The other option is to call before we leave the house tomorrow morning and exchange them. Box OO got a good review. At this point, though, I think we'll stick with what we have.

I will impose again on the community for a little more London input. We are in London for 5.5 days in August. I have identified the following 9 "sets" of sites I want to visit when we are there. I am guessing we don't have time to do all of this. Two questions -
1 and 7 can be done in one longish day. Go to the Tower (this will wipe out 3.5 hours), walk back to the Monument, eat lunch, visit St Paul's, walk across dementor bridge, visit Globe Theater, look at outside of Tate Modern (because the inside is modern art, which is a 50% accurate phrase).
3 and 4 is a day plus part of night. Go to Buckingham lpga futures tour Palace early and mock the guards like every other yokel or just take pics, walk to Parliament Sq, look at the tall tower with the clock, enter place where royalty is crowned and tour, walk to War Rooms ( www.daysoutguide.co.uk for discounts) and visit. That should wipe out the morning and part of the afternoon. Walk to Trafalgar Square, enter National Gallery of choice, visit St Martin, then walk up to Pic Circus/Leicester Sq area, pitter around. Covent Garden is thisclose to Leicester Square (walk - it's the shortest train stop in London from LSq to CG on the Piccadilly). Haven't been to the Handel Museum in 6+ trips to London. Marble Arch is . . . an arch, of marble.
Forget Harrod's except the food halls. Go to Jermyn Street and Saville Row. You could go to the Library/Museum for the morning and early pm then go to Jermyn lpga futures tour Street etc. in mid to late afternoon. You don't have to go to Pic Circus/Leicester Sq area just once.
Initially I'd drop the Handel Museum, Piccadilly/Shaftesbury Ave/Soho Sq (if you go to the theatre one night you'll see them then), the Strand (its just a street), Kensington Palace (unless it is one of your 'musts'), Sloane Street, Albert Hall except from the outside and across the road from the Albert lpga futures tour Memorial, Oxford (sorry but you simply don't have enough time).
You'll still have to cut some things - count every 'biggie' taking the best part of half a day. That would include travel times and stopping to eat. Your biggies include the Tower of London, St Pauls, Greenwich, (which really takes more than 1/2 a day), Westminster Abby, Cabinet War Rooms, National Gallery, British, Tate Britain, Tate Modern, Hampton Court . . . Leaving you not much time for anything else.
The Tower of London will take at least 2-4 hours but the Tower Bridge is something most people just look at or walk across. There is an exhibit but you certainly don't need to go in and do it in order to enjoy seeing the bridge. St Pauls will also take a few hours if you want to look at everything and climb to the top. Did you want to climb the monument (pretty similar view to St Pauls) or just see it? On that day you could probably also have time to visit Borough Market (great place for lunch) which is on the south bank but near those other things. The other things in that area are the Tate Modern, Globe Theater and Millennium Bridge. How long do you spend in museums - some people could spend hours in the Tate but if you just want to see a few highlights (it's free so lots of people just pop into museums in London for a short time). Also did you plan to tour the Globe Theater or just 'see' it? Depending on the answers to these questions, lpga futures tour all these things could be done in one day.
So you basically need to answer the question "how long do you plan to spend IN" some of these places. Some of the places won't take long at all because they are streets lpga futures tour or squares or bridges which you'll just walk around. But you have a fair number of museums on your list and people vary greatly how long they like to spend in museums and that's the key to whether lpga futures tour or not you can fit all this in.
As for the 'day trips'. lpga futures tour Oxford will take all day but I think it's 'worth' it. Greenwich I did in half a day but I didn't go into the observatory. Hampton Court I have not done (am going this summer) but most things I've read says it's 'about 3/4 of a day' trip. In 5.5 days I don't think you have time for all of these plus the things on your list (unless you drop some or most of the museums).
The food halls are definitely worth seeing IMO (but I personally think not as impressive as they used to be). But it really depends on your time -- as it is you are trying to fit a size eleven foot in a size five shoe.
Remember it is your holiday, if you REALLY want to go to Oxford, keep it in but you may have to cut things out from your London wish list. Also if you are in Knightsbridge I would absolutely pop into the Harrods food halls..... I agree ref Fortnum and Mason ( best Christmas puds) IMHO and great food hall. Really Sloan street is just that, a street with expensive shops... Not really a tourist lpga futures tour destination although you could have a walk down the kings road, up to Sloan Sq and then just walk up Sloan street to Harrods. But that wouldn't be on my top 5 things to do in London!
Why don't you make a list of of "non negotiables" and go from there. Whenever lpga futures tour I go somewhere new I always decide on what are the things I HAVE to see and work those into my days and then realistically see if I can add in the nice to haves ( and you also need to add in some free time for the gems you find you didn't know existed.......
I did Greenwich lpga futures tour in half a day (including the Observatory) but I was by myself and am a fairly fast walker. After that I took a train to the fairly new Docklands Museum which was fascinating. Second trip to London, though.
If I could return to only one more place in London before lpga futures tour I die, it would be Sir John Soane's Museum at twilight, followed by the Tate Modern, inside, thank you very much, and either the Wallace Collection or the National Gallery to see the Arnolfini Wedding. British Museum? British Library? Meh.
I have been going to London since Christmas, 1954, when a lot of modern London was still bomb sites, empty blocks full of the rubble of buildings destroyed by German bombs. lpga futures tour So that's 60 years ago, and I haven't seen it all yet, though I have been in some outlying places, for sure. So, see what you love, enjoy what you see, and budget to go back.
"our" London. We buy chocolates at Carbonnel et Walker, go to the theater, have afternoon tea at Richoux and a dinner of Steak Mushroom Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding at Brown's Restaurant, and attend lpga futures tour Sunday morning worship at St. Paul's.

sports car rentals tx While we re big fans of hidden sports car rentals tx gems, you can t argue the shopping appeal of one of London s most famed stores: Harrods. No, nothing will be on sale and, yes, it s always busy, but you can t beat the glitz and glamour that is Harrods shopping. New to Harrods is Urban Retreat, a spa located on the fifth floor. It s the perfect place to rejuvenate after a day of shopping, or the ideal spot to come and hide when your credit card is starting to flame up. I have the pleasure of being the organizational leader for Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines’ international travel group. In the summer of 2013, I was fortunate to get to travel with the Girl Scout troop I had been leading for about 10 years. While our girls came and went, a select few persevered and worked really hard to raise the funds for a great international trip.
The girls chose to take a trip to Europe to visit two of the Girl Scout World Centers – Pax Lodge and Our Chalet cruises to panama canal – and make a stop in Paris as well. After all, isn’t it every teenager’s dream to go to Paris? It was for our girls.
We flew into London and had several days seeing cruises to panama canal the sights. On our first day in England we took the tube and found our way to Buckingham Palace to see the changing of the guard. No other event could have given us a more “Welcome to England” feeling.
We visited Hampton Court Palace, completed a walking tour of London, spent time in Hyde Park, enjoyed a ride on the London Eye and a Thames River Cruise. We spent a half day at Pax Lodge taking part in a pinning ceremony and enjoying high tea.
The Eurostar shuttled us at about 180 miles-per-hour under the English Channel to Paris where we enjoyed all the sights including the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower and a day trip to the palace of Versailles.
Then it was on to Switzerland. We spent a day exploring Our Chalet and had some free time in the beautiful town of Adelboden. The last days of our trip were spent in Lucerne touring and shopping, and attending a Swiss Folklore event where we sampled cheese fondue and learned about Swiss culture and history.
This was a wonderful trip, enjoyed by all. The girls stepped out of their comfort zone learning about what it takes for international travel, and also about several cultures different from their own.

A few days ago, our sister site Jaunted car rental shannon ireland reported on Firefly's foray into the US marketplace and its hopes to open 20 locales around the US by year's end . That's in addition to the 40 spots it currently operates around Europe.
We entered the random date of September 25 to check out the selection and rates. We were offered our choice of ten vehicles, ranging from a Kia Rio on the low end ($23.49/day) to a Mitsubishi Spyder on the high ($72.49/day). Other choices car rental shannon ireland included a Dodge Avenger ($28.49/day), Chevrolet Equinox ($54.49/day) and a Ford Focus ($24.49). Check out rates for your preferred days of travel here .
I rented from Advantage once, and they forced me to wait over an hour for somebody to ferry over a car in the class I'd reserved, rather than giving me an available car in the next class up. The latter being standard operating procedure at other agencies. I was travelling on business and the delay could have been costly (but fortunately wasn't).
When Hertz acquired Dollar/Thrifty, car rental shannon ireland they were forced to sell off Advantage, at least the US branch of it. They were not forced to sell out their international units of Advantage, which they renamed Firefly (originally they were going to rename them Thrifty). In the US, Advantage still exists, as it is owned by a new company. It does seem odd for Hertz to roll out Firefly here since they already have Dollar and Thrifty.
