I never knew much about this 5 story hotel in the French Quarter that stands across St. Louis Street

I never knew much about this 5 story hotel in the French Quarter that stands across St. Louis Street adams mark hotel denver from the Federal Courthouse. This Hotel is the Omni Royal Orleans and it was built in the 1950's. adams mark hotel denver Otherwise, this would be completely uninteresting, but I was recently reading about the grand hotels the New Orleans once had. One of these was particularly interesting to me and caused me to pursue further reading on it. This Hotel was the St. Louis Hotel, also known as the Exchange Hotel. It was in its time, the grandest hotel in the Americas, but after the Civil War (and hence after the end of slave auctions, many of which occurred in this hotel), it fell into disrepair. By the end of the 19th century it had become a stable for cows and horses. It was eventually torn down (all but the North-West wall). A lumber yard sat in it's place. As I sat lamenting the loss of the great hotels of the golden age of New Orleans, a read about the Omni Royal Orleans . It was built as the Royal Orleans, on the site of the former St. Louis Hotel. Although Exchange Alley no longer connected the front door of this site to Canal Street adams mark hotel denver (thanks adams mark hotel denver to the construction of the aforementioned courthouse) and the grand dome and rotunda were not configured adams mark hotel denver in to this rebuild of the great ghost that once occupied the site, it was built to the highest standards of opulence and extravagance (to the extent which the late fifties would allow). It even has one "feature" that it predecessor did not, the Rib Room. I had not realized before how impressive this hotel in fact was. I simply thought that the Omni Royal Orleans was just another French Quarter Hotel. It was to my understanding that there were no grand hotels remaining in New Orleans. It was built with striking Architechtural similarity to the St. Louis. I think this is how alot of growth in New Orleans should occur. Take something we had that was good, that we lost. Rebuild it, but make it better. Why do we have a hotel where the French adams mark hotel denver Opera House was? We can continue to move forward in a manner that is very considerate of what we have and what we've lost. Now all we need to do is bring back the St. Charles Hotel in a similar manner. Who needs the Chase Bank Building?
