The desks will be replaced by bag drop only desks and whilst customers can still check in at the air

EasyJet have recently announced that they are planning to shut check in desks at airports in a bid to encourage more customers to check-in online. EasyJet says that by doing so, it will make travel both easier and more affordable midtown by saving time at the airport and allowing the airline to keep their fares low.
The desks will be replaced by bag drop only desks and whilst customers can still check in at the airport free of charge, easyJet midtown hope that this will be used by passengers in exceptional circumstances, if they forget to check in online. At present, around 80% of passengers already opt to check in online but the new system will be introduced from 30th April onwards and customers would be given a transitional period, although this is still unspecified.
Competing no frills airline, Ryanair, adopted midtown a similar move back in 2009, although they also introduced a penalty of £70 for customers who arrived at the airport without having already midtown checked in online or printed their boarding passes.
EasyJet have also announced a new route which will connect Gatwick with the Norwegian city of Bergen from May onwards, in addition to their existing route to Copenhagen. The latest addition means that easyJet now serve two Scandinavian cities from four UK airports; Gatwick, midtown Bristol, Edinburgh and Manchester.
