We returned to Bristol to return the rental truck, and were finally backon the road under our own po

If you read Hot Rod Magazine, you may know that last year, Hot Rod "Rescued" our 1968 Chevelle SS396 convertible. Many problems were found, and fixed, and in the end, Holley replaced the ECU, and fuel injectors in the Avenger EFI system that I won on Power Tour in 2010. Norm Brandes at Westech Automotive tested everything on his chassis dyno to make sure everything worked, and we brought the car back home on the trailer, since the roads weren't good, just before Christmas. This spring, I was anxious to get the car out and drive, and I put on about 2000 miles before leaving for Power Tour. Everything worked correctly, and we were anticipating an enjoyable ride.
Deb was able to get out of work on Friday, and we left home at 7:30 am,, drove to Evansville, Wi to join up with friends/travelling companions, and headed for Bristol, Tn., which was our destination for the day. We drove all day, and the car performed very well, pulling an MPG average of 19. We got to Corbin, Ky. about 6:30 pm, and decided to top off the gas tank before heading over the mountains to Bristol. We started the car after the fillup, and I knew something was wrong! The car sputtered, popped, missed, advantage car costa rental rica and was not happy! I thought we had gotten gas with water in it, or diesel fuel instead of gas. I didn't know for sure, but I knew we had to get whatever it was out of the tank! Got to a Pilot Truck Plaza with a 24 hour shop out back, drained the tank, and filled up at a different gas station, adding octane booster, fuel injector cleaner, and Heet to hopefully eliminate advantage car costa rental rica the contaminants.
Back on the road to Bristol, the car did not run any better, but I hoped the contaminants advantage car costa rental rica would burn out as we drove, that did not happen! We popped, sputtered, banged, and shot flames out the exhaust all the way, having to stop three more times to fill up with gas, since the gas we had was not being burned efficiently! Got lost in the mountains twice(it's hard to follow where you are going when the car will barely run, and all your energy is spent trying to keep the car running), and finally arrived in Bristol at 3:30 am, and the car ran just long enough to get through the condo gate, then died, and would not fire again.
Saturday we rode with friends to Concord, checked in with Registration, and went to the Holley trailer. I told them what had happened, and that I thought advantage car costa rental rica my best bet was to just buy a carburetor, and be on my way. The Holley rep said I should talk to Luke, who is their EFI expert. I repeated our story to Luke, and he was unsure how to proceed, until we showed him the April issue of Hot Rod with the rescue article in it. Luke called Holley advantage car costa rental rica HQ, explained what was going on, and the VP he was talking to said to do whatever it took to make us happy. He asked if we could get the car to Knoxville,Tn for the next day's venue, where he would look at it and figure advantage car costa rental rica out what to do from there. I said that we'd get it there somehow, and left to try to figure out how to get the car to Knoxville. After striking outon several options, we called UHaul, rented a truck and trailer, pushed the car on, and headed to Knoxville.
Once we finally got there, Luke checked out the system, which would not run, and decided it was DOA. He told us to remove the old Avenger system, advantage car costa rental rica and he would acquire the parts necessary to install the new Holley Terminator system. It took a couple hours for us to remove the old Avenger and for the Holley guys to install and setup the new Terminator, but when they were done, the car started, and ran,WELL!
We returned to Bristol to return the rental truck, and were finally advantage car costa rental rica backon the road under our own power, advantage car costa rental rica and ready to continue advantage car costa rental rica with HRPT. The car ran well, and I ran it harder than I normally advantage car costa rental rica would, hoping that if anything was to go wrong it would happen sooner, rather than later. In Bettendorf, I checked in with Luke to have him set the idle speed a little advantage car costa rental rica lower. He did that, checked the fuel maps, and adjusted the secondary throttle plates, which weren't closing all the way.
Glad you had good luck with Holley. Quite the opposite with me. I bought a Terminator EFI 1 year ago and the car never ran right. I had it in a Holley dealers shop twice and the Holley rep came to my house once. They couldn't make the car run right. They finally a couple of weeks ago agreed advantage car costa rental rica to give me a refund on the parts I bought from them. I am still out several hundred dollars for labor and misc. parts for the install. Put new carb on it and runs fine now.
