Numerous college students can't wait to get away from their parents and experience freedom they've never had. But it only takes a few weeks into the semester when a diet of Ramen noodles and missing the luxury of a DVR starts taking its toll.
The Student Government Association heard what out-of-state students had to say and is offering a service called Knight Flight, which is a free shuttle program that will provide round-trip transportation for students to and from Orlando International Airport.
"I'm already getting emails all the time [that say], 'When's Knight Flight going up? What's the schedule? Where can I sign up? What can I do? I want to go home for Thanksgiving,'" Joseph Manglardi , facility and transportation coordinator of SGA , said.
Keegan Gill, a freshman majoring in biomedical sciences, came to UCF from Delaware to experience something new and get involved with the medical school in Lake Nona. However because she doesn't have a car, she's had to find other methods of transportation to get home.
Knight Flight is only offered at Thanksgiving break and at the end of the semester, and Manglardi said SGA plans on providing the service during spring break next semester as well, though they haven't started organizing that yet.
Sophomore industrial engineering student Sean Grogan, who came to UCF from Hawaii because of a Florida pre-paid scholarship, said he thinks Knight Flight being offered around the holidays is enough, but he couldn't use it last year.
"All my flights leave really early in the morning, and Knight cheap rental car Flight doesn't run early enough for me to use," he said. "Last year when I didn't have a car, what I ended up doing is having to ask someone to take me to the airport at 6:30 in the morning."
To park in the blue or red lot, it costs $4 for 11 minutes to three hours, then $10 every 24 hours. To park in a terminal, there is a 20-minute free period, then $2 for 21 to 40 minutes, $1 for each additional 20 minutes up to $17, then $17 every 24 hours.
