And I presume without specific knowledge that by their very nature (transmission to satellites) that there has to be some geolocation information? (I guess this is what Ben is hinting at.) Why would this information not be released, or at least commented on, at the same time they are releasing the information on the engines continued operation?

I agree Dan, that many passengers would revolt and someone would know. Any airfield capable of landing a 777 would of already been scanned via satelite in the range as per the total fuel onboard Ex Subang. if you were a hijacker and intending to make an immediate statement by harming the lives of the passengers, why would you turn the transponder off, in fact you would probably leave it on so to show the world proof. well they say anything is possible, and who knows, the various news reports may turn out to be right, hijacking the plane and landing at an airfield with the intention of using the airplane at a later time for some terrorist purpose. But seriously how would you hide it? 777/ 747 sized hangars are not something you see at military or remote airfields, cant see a bunch of hijackers pulling military style camo nets over a 70ft high 777 vertical stabilzer to hide it unless they were seriously into Ian fleming novels. All the mentions of the andaman sea , malacca straits etc, in Remote airfields like banda aceh you cant do a u turn at the end of the runway unless your in a bug smasher or up to a 737 or A320 and there is only one hangar that will hold a 737 and medan has no hangars yet.
