Excellent article on an incredible trip. S… [More] Drive Day Trips Through Yellowstone National Park

Usually we road warriors are the ones offering tips on where to go and what to do, but now it s my turn to seek your input. This winter, yours truly will be embarking on a journey the likes of which I ve never before...um...embarked on: a road trip with kids.
Cue the ominous music and the thunder clap at least that s the reaction my pronouncement seems to elicit. But I m thinking, hey, what s the big deal? Load up the wagon with a box of granola bars, a bunch of CDs, a few toys with minimal moving parts for the tykes, and we re ready to motor. Right?
I took tons of road trips as a kid, way back in ye olden days before minivans, cruise cheap DVD players and app-loaded smart phones (the only Angry Bird we knew was the one we were occasionally subjected to on L.A. freeways, but I digress), and we still had a blast.
OK, the adult-onset amnesia is not 100 percent. I recall squabbles about who was encroaching on whose side of the backseat amid games of I Spy and Crazy Eights and endless replays of a delightful cruise cheap (to a child s ears) 8-track called cruise cheap Funky Favorites cruise cheap that surely drove my parents cruise cheap bonkers.
1. Everybody brings favorite tunes that will be played no matter how atrocious. After all, if my ma could not only tolerate but also sing along with Guns N Roses and Run DMC, surely I can endure the latest boy band.
5. Car games. I Spy is a given. Punch Buggy is out; it devolves to malice far too easily! Billboard Alphabet is always entertaining, and scouring the roadside signs to call out each letter of the alphabet as it appears. Oh, the sweet anticipation waiting for a Dairy Queen sign for the elusive Q!
Auntie 440 - you didn't mention oen of my all time favorites of finding the license plates. Those sticker books are still available here. As a mature adult, I even play that game (without the sticker book) when I'm traveling alone.
My daughter cruise cheap loves to play Guess that Disney character. We each take turns selecting a Disney character, while everyone else asks yes or no questions to determine who the character is. It's fun when we choose really obscure characters from older movies. We also play the animal alphabet game, where each person has to come up with the name of an animal with each letter of the alphabet. If no one has the same animal as you, you get a point. (If you and another person say the same animal, cruise cheap no points for either person, so works well with 3+ players).
Hi - on a long road trip i print out black and white united states maps and bring crayons cruise cheap and as we see a license plate we color it in. Teaches kids where all the states are, they get to color, and it definitely makes the time go fast trying to see how many of the states we can find.
Love this post. We always find car cricket is the best way to pass the time. 1 point for passing a car, 3 for a motorbike, 4 for a truck and 6 for a semi. You get out when you pass a red car. First to 100 wins. It can get quite competitive!
