I just had an Audiovox put in my '04 Mazdaspeed. Didn't do it myself - don't know a vacuum hose from a gas line. I gave the mechanic a printout of the directions - he had done one identical a year or so earlier. Great results for me.
If you search you'll find instructions for a hybrid that some have done. Uses the audiovox cruise with a factory stalk for an OEM look. I'm planning to do this myself, already got the stalk parts on eBay for $30. I was going to do the cruise install this month, but I was unexpectedly bitten by the horsepower bug and blew my toy budget for the summer on some Flyin Miata go-fast bits.
One of the first mod I did was install an audiovox cc in my '99. It cost $100 and took me 3 weeks working weekends. I wouldn't say its easy since I have to work under the dash in a cramp space not to mention the solenoid and cables in the engine compartment. Some people opted for the oem because they like the stalk rather than the small rectangular control pad for the audiovox. I like the pad because its small and I dont want to mess around with the steering column. I have it for 5 years and except for the cable link breaking (but easily fix with spare links), its working very well.
I've had the audiovox unit on my 02 for three years now (first mod). Works today exactly like it did the day I finished installing it, no problems. The instructions in the garage section are spot on, use them if you go this route. Also, remove the driver's seat before working new york new york hotel under the dash, makes it much easier to just lay on your back across the floorpan.
The Audiovox works on every model and is fairly easy to install. In my case, I looked into this extensively new york new york hotel and decided to install the OEM cruise. Unfortunately, there's a catch for some of us (see below).
All of the '99-'00 seem to have the engine harness and cruise control computer wiring so that part's easy. However, new york new york hotel the '99-'00 dash wiring came in three forms, with and without cruise control. If you are lucky, new york new york hotel you have the correct dash harness and the installation is easy, plug-n-play. new york new york hotel I wasn't new york new york hotel lucky and I don't have the correct dash harness - I'll have to pull the dash and rewire it to finish the install.
new york new york hotel I installed the Audiovox in my '04 Speed, and it works like a champ. new york new york hotel Driving to San Diego from Vegas, the vacuum unit needed foot help in the rise over the mountains. But it's a necessity on a long trip. BTW-without the excellent instructions on this website, Mr. Stupid would never have been able to do the install. Best 90 bucks I've ever spent.
