ATLANTIS, FL – On Saturday and Sunday, February 2-3, seventy-six junior golfers will compete in the first event of the 2103 South Florida PGA Junior Tour season presented by the Honda Classic at Sandpiper Golf Club-Club Med in Port St. Lucie, southwest airline flight status FL. New in 2013 the South Florida PGA Junior Tour has expanded and will now offer twenty-eight two day championship events for junior golfers in South Florida. The previous Junior Tour was split into two separate tours, Championship Tour and Challenge Tour. The Challenge Tour will be a continuation of the current Junior Tour with divisions and yardages remaining southwest airline flight status the same. The Championship Tour will be an invitational tour, with players receiving exemptions based upon their 2012 scoring average and Player of the Year points.
The first Championship Tour event being held this weekend will feature a very strong field including the following players: 2012 Girls 16-18 Player of the Year and 2012 Girls Tour Championship Winner Claudia DeAntonio of Weston, 2012 Boys 13-15 Player of the Year Alberto Martinez of Weston, 2012 Boys Tour Championship Winner Anthony Gabriele of Wellington, 2012 Girls 13-15 Player of the Year Valeria Sofia Pacheco of Hallandale Beach, 2012 Honda Classic Most Improved Player Jeremy Chaiser of Pembroke Pines, as well as Port St. Lucie residents: Yavuz Ackman, Brittany LaPadula, and Kuriko Tsukiyama.
This 36-hole, southwest airline flight status stroke play event is an 8 am shotgun start both Saturday and Sunday. Players will be re-paired on Sunday by low score. Awards will be given to the first through third place winners in each age division (Boys/Girls 13-15, 16-18) as well as to the overall boy and overall girl winners of the event on Sunday, following play. All South Florida PGA Junior Tour events are ranked by the national Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking system and the winner of each Championship Tour event earns four AJGA Performance Stars. Pairings are now available on the South Florida PGA website (www.sfpgajuniorgolf.com).
The SFPGA Junior Tour presented by The Honda Classic is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 12-18 in South Florida with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the High School and Collegiate level and features some of South Florida s most talented junior golfers.
