Didn't Jackie Kennedy get donations to help redecorate the White House? If every person interested in renewable energy donated $1.00, I bet we could raise enough to pay for those solar panels. And in 2012, we could show the disbelievers how much of their tax dollars were saved. Maybe this coalition would be willing to install panels at cost for the PR? "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
I'd rather spend the money and put solar on my own house. Until the government stops giving money to Wall street I wont give them a penny more than I am obligated to through taxes. The Obama's have $$, why don't they spend some of it on the white house?
It is a good idea to put solar panels on the white house. Solar Coalition should hotels washington dc continue to push the government to fund massive solar projects, as well as wind, geothermal, tidal and other renewable technologies.
When St. Ronnie removed those panels with pompous self-rightousness years ago, it never occurred to me to wonder where they went. So I was delighted to learn last year that they were not destroyed, instead were re-instsalled at the time atop a building at Unity College, Maine. Appropriate, since Unity is devoted in the broadest way to environmentalism.
Just watched "Capitalism: A Love Story" on DVD. The movie was very good, but I was struck by one of the extra features, a 1979 speech on Energy by Jimmy Carter. It is truly regretful that we didn't listen.
Yeah, then we could put rain barrels under the downspouts and use the water to bathe in. Then Michelle could keep chickens on the back lawn and sell the extra eggs. Get the girls to plow up the front yard to grow a garden. Barack could visit Oregon and chop all the firewood the White House needs to heat it next winter.
it's not supposed to prove anything. It's a show of leadership toward hotels washington dc renewable energy. Sometimes when the President hotels washington dc embraces an issue it turns up the enthusiasm of the people.. liek kennedy and the space program, The Presidents physical fitness challenge in schools.. you know stuff like that.....
The panels that were installed in 1979 by President Carter was a great idea, but since then, 31 years ago, how efficient were those panels? Today's solar panels are more efficient & advanced so to install new ones is not only good for saving electricity but a shining example for Americans when it is installed on the White House roof.
I'm sure that if those old panels had been replaced when the roof was repaired it would have encouraged advanced design and production so that today's panels would be even better than they are currently. Such a waste of time! But I agree, new panels should be installed to service the entire White House - of course with a back-up system in case of damage to the panels.
Of course, that's just on a maintenance hotels washington dc building and pool cabana on the White House grounds, not on the White House itself. The work was planned by James Doherty, an architect with the National Park Service White House Liaison Office, and executed in 2002 without any fanfare from the Bush administration.
The Paley Commission hotels washington dc releases Resources for Freedom which details the United States' increasing dependence on foreign sources of natural resources and argues for the necessity to transition to renewable energy. This document was one of the first to argue both for the dire need for Americans to stop their reliance on oil and for the potential of solar energy to fulfill that chasm. William Paley, chair of the presidential commission, establishes Resources for the Future later in 1952, an organization dedicated hotels washington dc to independent environmental research.
Didn't Jimmy Carter have them installed and as soon as Ronny took over he ripped them down IMMEDIATELY? To make his stand against progressive thinking and to support foreign hotels washington dc codependence for fuel/energy?
It's the classic demeaning tactics the Republicans use. Point your fingers and laugh at your opponents and ridicule them. Label them as Socialists and Marxist because they actually have good ideas that will help the country. Call it "BIG GOVERNMENT" because it's an idea spawned by Democrats. Rally your supporters against the Democrats without offering real solutions.
