A new trailer for James Mangold s Knight and Day , starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, has come online.  It plays better than the first trailer and is a reminder that while Cruise s personal life can be controversial, the guy is a movie star because he has charisma and is likable (the latter depending on how much you can forget his personal life when you see one of his movies).  I think the movie looks like a lot of fun due mainly to Cruise s performance combined with Diaz ability to play panicked without becoming shrill.  The action looks fairly solid too, although there s one shot where the two are looking at the oncoming running of the bulls and if they d kept the background as a green screen royal carribean cruise ships it would be just as convincing.

Knight and Day centers on a lonely woman (Diaz) whose seemingly harmless blind date suddenly turns her life upside-down when a super spy (Cruise) takes her on a violent worldwide journey royal carribean cruise ships to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source. Maggie Grace is playing Diaz s sister, who is getting married, excited that Diaz will take the place of their late father and walk her down the aisle.

So far, the trailers have not made me excited to see this. The action looks good with the exception of that bullfight scene already mentioned but the humor is lame. It really comes down to whether sitting through barely passable gags is worth the promised action. While Cruise plays the part of the delirious spy about as well as anyone, I am not sure this was the right vehicle for him to regain his Box Office status.
