Effective today Spirit Airlines is adding a $2 DOTUC one-way fee to tickets purchased on its website, which it says is to cover "the unintended consequences of government regulations," that recently took effect.
Specifically the new fee is a response to the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) rule that now requires airlines to hold fares for 24 hours after booking without penalty, portland oregon airport hotels Spirit said in a statement .

During their last strike they cancelled a flight from Boston to FTL and never even posted ANYONE at the gate to let us know. We just saw no plane. Closed gate. Had to go to another airline to ask what happened. Then they made us jump through hoops for a refund.
This is an ala carte airline. If you buy a ticket for a flight, pack a light bag, and allow the airline to assign you a NO COST seat (which will probably be a middle-seat depending on your ff status) then this is a great airline to fly. Also, I have found their new semi-reclined seats to be quite comfortable. Contrary to what other posters have said, I look to fly Spirit first, before the other major carriers. I m happy that FLL is their main hub airport.
One of the biggest problems with Spirit is one that many people don t understand: the lack of interline agreements. An interline agreement allows airlines to transfer a ticket (and the fare already paid) to another airline. Spirit does not interline.
