“We’re all quite excited about it. In fact, we’ve been excited about it for quite a long time,” said
Several sources with knowledge of the situation said they do not expect the flight travel tours of venice italy to occur before Tuesday but the company is targeting this week after the high-speed taxi and landing gear tests are completed.
"We're all quite excited about it. In fact, we've been excited about it for quite a long time," said William "Muz" Colquhoun, 52, who has been overseeing the flight test program for the second CSeries aircraft [FTV2].
A final decision will largely be dependent on weather and getting the final okay from the test flight crew. The CSeries' pilots will be looking travel tours of venice italy for winds of 10 knots or less, and a high cloud ceiling as ideal conditions for the test flight.
While the CSeries will eventually be tested in all kinds of weather conditions, because the plane has never been flown, Bombardier will be looking to mitigate as much risk as possible for the first flight, Mr. Colquhoun said.
"While you genuinely do not expect bad things to happen, it would be wrong to not anticipate that they might on the first flight," Mr. Colquhoun said. "You have to de-risk this flight as much as you can, and one of the best ways to de-risk is to fly on a clear day with no clouds and a light wind."
At the same time, while many of the systems travel tours of venice italy on FTV1 are mature, others, like the fuel tank gauges require the pilots to track how the gauging changes at different pitches, altitudes and bank angles, which can only be done in the sky.
The third test flight vehicle will test the avionics. The fourth plane will be for performance testing, and the fifth will be with seating and interiors akin to the one that will be used commercially by airlines.
Bombardier will have one of its Global 5000 business jets act as the chase plane to test the atmosphere ahead of the flight, and to follow the flight test vehicle to monitor its performance and relay any airspeed or altitude information.
The CSeries' flight has been put back by more than eight months after successive delays hit the program. This has pushed out the entry into service date, which is expected about 12 months after its maiden flight.
Bombardier's management intends to wait until the CSeries has a few test flights behind it before a delivery travel tours of venice italy date is set for the first commercial aircraft. But the consensus amongst analysts is that service will start in early 2015.
The somewhat tepid response has been a concern for investors, who worry airlines have been expanding smaller narrow-body aircraft to larger planes, like the 737MAX and A320neo in the face of sizable discounting being offered travel tours of venice italy by Boeing and Airbus.
Of the 770 aircraft orders in the 100-to-149 seat category over the past five years, Bombardier has captured 23% of them, ahead of Boeing and Airbus but behind travel tours of venice italy Embraer, which has pulled ahead with 317 orders for its regional jets, he noted.
He estimates Bombardier would have to capture roughly 30% of the expected 6,900 deliveries in the 100-to-149-seat aircraft segment over the next 20 years — or 2,100 aircraft — in order to return the cost of capital invested in the program.
Mr. Chamoun said it's possible Bombardier can achieve this — but is not a sure thing with Embraer competing aggressively on the lower end, while Boeing and Airbus battle on the higher end of the spectrum.
"It does not appear to us that the probability of the program being a home run for Bombardier is very high," Mr. Chamoun said. "An outcome where the program earns something in the neighbourhood of its cost of capital might be considered disappointing given the amount of risk the company undertook to deliver travel tours of venice italy it."
"The airplane is a complicated airplane," he said. "For the in-service pilots, the airplane will be one of the easiest planes to fly because all the complexity that is under the surface [that the test pilots fix] takes most of the workload away."
