This is my first visit to Las Vegas but Kate has been here twice before, most recently in January this year. We are here for 1+ weeks and we are considering making it our base from which to explore the U.S west coast and beyond. Accommodation and living costs are comparatively cheap here, for example there is no added tax on food in Nevada
Kate LOVES the hot weather here. However, for me, it was a shock arriving to 100 F dry heat at 7 pm after spending 4 weeks in Oahu at a pleasant (if more humid) 82 F. As we left the airport I felt like I was hit by a hair dryer on full . They say it takes 2 weeks to acclimatize to a dramatic climate change and I think I ll need it. Since getting here I m definitely having to apply moisturizer and lip balm intensively, and I m finding my nasal mucous membranes are very dry too.
Having a rental car here is very advisable, especially if you want to venture further than the the Strip . With our rental car we can buy groceries, check out shops and restaurants of interest, visit the Strip and take short excursions out of town without having to rely on public transport. I d hate waiting in the intense heat of Summer for a bus and then have to walk from the bus stop to my destination.
Other than the Las Vegas Strip where the casinos and hotels are grouped fairly close together and within walking distance, Las Vegas is a sprawling city of suburbs and strip malls and is unfortunately not designed for walking or cycling. Our first week s rental from Firefly for a Nissan buy flight ticket Sentra has only cost us US$116 including taxes and minus a $10 coupon (booked online of course).
We are staying at Crestwood Suites on Las Vegas Boulevard, just 1-2 miles south of the Strip and close to the airport. It has 154 suites and is a low rise, only 3 floors high. By booking online, we got a week s accommodation for US$313 including tax (using a 10% discount code). Like everywhere on Vegas, there is a massive buy flight ticket difference between Friday and Saturday night prices and the rest of the week. On Saturday we saw a walk in couple get charged $109 + tax for 1 night! buy flight ticket so always book your accommodation online to ensure a better rate, even if it s on the day you want to check in. The same goes for rental cars above.
We have a studio apartment with a full size bathroom, kitchenette with a microwave, 2 hot plates, full size fridge freezer, coffee maker, and toaster. We have a room with a 2 seater sofa and a desk. We were told they don t have 1 bedroom suites buy flight ticket but we essentially do have a bedroom buy flight ticket as there are rolling doors that separate it from the living/kitchen area. Crestwood has a nice approx. 10 metre swimming pool, a small basic gym and a laundry. Wifi is free, the speed is reasonable. There is plenty of free parking outside.
At $45/per night including taxes I am very happy with the value we re getting for our money. My only criticism is the lack of cooking utensils and bowls. In our suite there is only one saucepan, a tin opener, 2 serving spoons and no bowls for the microwave. There is literally 2 each of cutlery, dessert buy flight ticket bowls and dinner plates (one cracked). Annoyingly there are no large sharp or serrated knives. There is minor to moderate wear on some of the kitchen buy flight ticket cabinets buy flight ticket and coffee table. I wouldn t be so happy if I was paying US$109 + tax per night.
Parking at the Casinos is free (unless you choose valet parking) which is great but it can take a considerable amount of time finding a parking space each time you return, as well as getting get in and out of the parking buildings. buy flight ticket For this reason we see it as a real advantage to stay somewhere nearby, rather than at a casino hotel on the The Strip, as we like to pop out to the shops etc in our car frequently.
