Proving that being ultra-green also can be ultra-fun — and still deliver outstanding long-term value — the Chevrolet Spark EV charged off with our 5-Year Cost to Own honors in the Best Electric/Plug-in category. paris open air bus tours Currently available in California and Oregon, the most eco-friendly member of Chevy s smallest vehicle line packs a big-time personality into its mini-scaled package and rounds things out with an impressive selection of standards and an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating.
Chevrolet s Volt for 2014 is more than a hybrid and more than a pure electric. Actually, it s a bit of both. Unlike most hybrids, the Volt can run at freeway speeds on pure electric, but only for limited range of about 30-40 miles. When the battery pack is depleted, a small gasoline engine kicks on to run a generator that powers the electric motor while simultaneously paris open air bus tours recharging the battery pack. With the gasoline engine running, the Volt s estimated range is increased paris open air bus tours to 380 miles and its fuel economy estimated around 40 mpg. Unlike many electric and hybrid offerings the Volt s styling isn t awkward or geeky, and its interior is one of the coolest we ve seen in or out of a hybrid.

I had a 1980 Mustang with the I6 200 CI engine, and it ran well, but it was a gas hog. The new V6 is a gas and money saver, and that is what this list is about. Most Mustang owners buy the V8 engine and don t care about how to save money. A V6 Mustang paris open air bus tours or a V6 Camaro is no joke!
BTW, I have posted before about the low (almost no) maintenance for the 2014 Chevy Spark EV, so I will not repeat myself here. The Owner Manual is now online so anyone car read it and understand my postings about it (I bought the paper manual last year). Here is the link:
GM is killing itself by limiting paris open air bus tours Spark EV sales to just two states. It is a real import killer, and may actually save more gas than any other vehicle (including the Chevy Volt) in its lineup. City dwellers, like myself, need it.
Ahh slowly but surely the permeating facts of had data is crumbling and melting the shell of ignorance, fear, uncertainty and doubt. I predict that older volts will hold their value well. This may be a side effect of GM throttleing back on Volt production and sales. If Volts ELR s and Spark EV s slow to a trickle depreciation for this class of vehicles will likely float.
In regard to Jeff s question, Do you think the Spark EV could sell in places beyond California paris open air bus tours and Oregon? IMHO, absolutely, emphatically, YES. The Spark EV would make a great city car for all locations. Spark EV should paris open air bus tours be promoted as the hip vehicle to purchase for all who need a short range vehicle for all around town needs. Consumer Reports preferred the Spark EV to the ICE version. paris open air bus tours Spark EV should be in direct competition to the Nissan Leaf. Chevrolet has a fun car to drive, especially for two, and for in town driving is the answer for low cost, clean BEV transportation.
However, when it comes to anyone paris open air bus tours needing more than 60 miles of range or an extremely safe vehicle, then skip the small BEVs completely and head straight for the VOLT. I continue to share the VOLT experience as THE best EV alternative if anyone wants a Tesla Model S and cannot afford it. What other reasonability priced E-REV gives 40 miles of 100% EV excitement and can continue to travel long distances anywhere with a decent paris open air bus tours sized engine? Anyone who considers other vehicles is foolish to NOT take a VOLT test drive. The car buying public needs to know what they are missing before spending hard earned money on low range BEVs or gasoline assisted hybrids. If a vehicle cannot give a full speed EV experience for the thrill of driving electric only, then that driver is missing out on the future of transportation. VOLT encourages the driver to plug-in to extend the all electric fun, yet with E-REV, paris open air bus tours has the range to continue driving paris open air bus tours across country quickly without the anxiety of plugging in.
Of all the vehicles paris open air bus tours in the list, I can personally give testimony to the beautiful and magnificent 2014 Chevy Impala as the Best Full-Sized Car (Sedan), since I rented one last year and everyone who rode in it loved it. Even my 32-year-old niece who drives paris open air bus tours a Lexus said that it is the smoothest car she has ever rode it. She fell asleep one morning in the front passenger seat while I was driving it. It will have a start-stop (light hybrid) system, but it would be perfect as the next EREV.
But I am very happy that many great GM vehicles are in the list. My 2009 Chevy Equinox is another that should be included because in five years it had its first Check Engine indication this week. It was a bad spark plug in cylinder 1, and was replace under warranty for free at the dealer yesterday. My only costs in five years of ownership: gasoline and two oil changes.
your dream may come true if GM engineers and managers see the same vision. Many forum members, including fellow engineers, admire what GM developed for the Chevy Spark EV, and we know that it can be upscaled, paris open air bus tours such that any or all of GM models can become a BEV, and a EREV with a range extended paris open air bus tours added. Present battery technology is limiting most of this.
I have rented Impalas before, but the 2014 model is outstanding! If you can, rent one and try it out for yourself. BTW, I rented the Impala with Enterprise at the Fort Lauderdale Airport. And the day I returned it, I visited the Tesla Motors showroom and service center in Dania Beach, just a few miles south of the airport. That day I sat in the Model S and compared two of the best American sedans.
This cost to own presentation would have been much more significant if it was based on REAL DATA. There is no 5 years of data on the Spark although I agree with Raymond that it makes sense that the Spark would be very low TCO you can t conclude that if you don t actually HAVE THE DATA.
That s the truth. Say it again .then look at the price differential. The Volt has sooo much tech in it for the price. Too bad John Q Public can t appreciate paris open air bus tours it. To bad GM can t appreciate it. If we are lucky GM won t cancel the Volt. I have a terrible feeling that GM will cancel it.
If it was up to me, I wouldn t even put back seats in there. Use the space for cargo/battery. I only need a car to get my butt around and possibly one other person. Yeah, I know, not practical for many, but it s my fantasy right

I agree with you, but several of the vehicles in the KBB list are also so new that there is little data, too. They projected future TCO cost based on the manufacturer s data, as we do for GM vehicles here. I have serviced paris open air bus tours many GM (and other) vehicles in my family since 1963 and I know by comparison that the Chevy Spark EV needs the least maintenance (read the manual I posted above).
We must insist in this upgrade of our personal transportation. Electric vehicles give the most torque (and driving fun) with the least wear and cost of ownership. GM has given us the Volt and the Spark EV. We want more!
And to imagine that the volt did not even make Forbes list of the top 12 greenest cars. Really FORBES, who writes your junk with 2 prius included not to mention other cars. Wow I am hoping the list was a big typo.

However, The Market Has Spoken. Two seat cars do not sell (Ford EXP, Pontiac Fiero, Buick Reatta, a Cadillac something, the Nash Metropolitan). They re also often not that much cheaper, although as an EV, you d probably paris open air bus tours get better range and therefore the cost-benefit would improve noticeably.

You can t really compare reliability without the data, but we know the maintenance schedules, fuel economy, current insurance rates, paris open air bus tours and prices of these cars, so why can t we compare them? Unless they turn out to be lemons, and they haven t yet, I expect the comparisons to be pretty accurate. I can plan for retirement, even though I haven t retired yet. We have expectations for the future that usually turn out to be reliable, even if there are occasional surprises. It doesn t make sense to wait until the end of a model run to decide which model to buy.
Yes, these comparisons are done with future paris open air bus tours maintenance data, not real data since all are 2014 models, and several are brand new or complete redesigns. This is why I posted the 2014 Chevy Spark EV owner manual link above so anyone who follows manufacture schedule maintenance can read and compare with published data. I did last year (June 26th) and I am 100% convinced!
That is a most puzzling question. I cannot see the harm in making paris open air bus tours the Spark EV available nationwide. Worst case scenario, the car is so popular production can’t catch up with demand and buyers will have to wait for the car. Sounds like a Tesla problem. IMO a problem worth having.
You can buy one in Oregon and ship it to Iowa, but first check which Chevy dealer can support it. Or see my post above on the eBay sale in Illinois. If you buy this one, you can drive it home, recharging on the way.
Get her a Prius and then get a car for yourself. I shared cars w/ my wife for decad
