Over the past decade I’ve stayed here many times and the three main attractions for me are the view from the Top of the Mark, the view from the rooms, and the executive lounge on the ground floor.
After a quick and pleasant transcontinental flight from New York, I arrived at the Mark, albeit with some concerns. In April, the hotel had announced it had made significant changes to one of my favorite parts of the hotel, the executive lounge.
The living room had a seating area with a large sofa and several chairs, an inviting place for an informal meeting or for entertaining. Beyond was a table serving both as a desk and dining area for four, making travel to vietnam it suitable for a more formal gathering.

We loved our atay at Villa Florence. The location of the hotel is just aroud the corner of Union Square. We were given a room at the rear side away from traffic and our room was so quite. We would definitely stay here again.
I loved my stay here! For the price, this hotel was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was close to anything you'd need, and a short walk to Union Square. It has a big, open lobby with a bistro bar that opens up to the outside -

There was an excellent piece in the Slog on Monday , based on both NYU work and a US Census graphic , showing that the Seattle area both ranks 10th in longest commutes, and that we have the 3rd fastest growth for long commutes.  The census piece introduced me to the term megacommuter, someone that commutes universal studios orlando hotels over 90 minutes and 50 miles each way.  One out of every 122 full time workers in the US is a megacommuter , and 10.8 million in the US commute more than an hour each way.  With so many megacommuters out there, I ve decided to address them directly.

And now, finally, here s the entry describing IrishBand s trip to Port Townsend earlier this month.  As you may or may not know, the other two guys in the band are PT natives, so each trip back is loaded with memories and emotions for them, and new memories and good times for me.
We drove up there early on Saturday morning, the plan being to arrive early enough that we could meet up with friends, eat pizza, and wander around town to look in the shops and see the sights.  The Plan quickly seemed to evaporate, however, as phone calls went unanswered and shops weren t open.  We did manage to connect with Dan and Julie, who grew up in PT but lived in Portland until recently.  We visited them at the extremely unusual house they re renting, which is also a place that Singer lived a few years back.  I wanted to take pictures of everything, white house christmas tours but I thought better of it because it was our friends place.  Maybe next time I will.  We re planning to go up to PT more regularly.

The Art-Not-Fear trio (Fear-Not-Art?  Not-Fear-Art?  Fear-Art-Not?) was struck by tragedy when Not capsized on the other size of the pier, and the driver/captain had to be rescued by the sheriff.  The guy wasn t hurt, luckily, but the kinetic looked a bit worse for wear when we saw it on the shore later.  Incidentally, the picture of the Cadillac sticking out of the water, with Fear Art being the obvious caption, was just too priceless not to capture.
The plastic replica of a 1963 Cadillac started out as a crowd favorite, but I m not sure how many friends they made that day, because they rolled down the ramp so fast that they slammed into the guy in the water in front of them, and he had to use his arms to push himself away from the car.  Which is okay, accidents do happen sometimes, but later on, it seemed to have a bit of difficulty in the water, and it even needed to be towed about halfway through the course.
The one below was my personal favorite of the kinetics, because of its simple, clean, economical design.  It s also the one that ended up towing the Cadillac.  Just another example white house christmas tours of the fact that simplicity is always best.  It went into and out of the water effortlessly. . .

The trip was a total blast, as usual.  I love PT, and I m really glad to have the opportunity to spend time there regularly, and to meet so many of the cool people who live there.  I feel like I m starting to get to know the place by now.

Day 5: Depart La Push for Port Angeles via Sol Duc. Once in the Sol Duc park, you'll want to stop


When?  There’s really no bad time to visit Olympic National Park.  There are amazing scapes any time of year.  Our preference is summer for warmer weather and fewer rain days on the peninsula and in nearby Seattle.
travel advice for military What?  The park bills itself as three parks in one, but to us it’s much more.  Beaches with sand, shells, rocks, driftwood, and surreal sea stacks (offshore land formations).  Mountains with miles of hiking, biking, and skiing.  Forests and rain forest of lush green.  Mountain lakes and streams of crystal clear waters.
Accommodations:  Link many national parks, there are few accommodations within the park itself. travel advice for military The surrounding towns offer plenty of rental properties, but if you don’t know the area it may be hard to find a place that meets your expectations.
Olympic National Park is massive.  The drive between travel advice for military parks can easily be an hour if there’s traffic or inclement weather.  Our recommendation is to stay in one of a couple central travel advice for military locations, the La Push/Mora/Forks area provides access to the western most parks and Port Angeles or Sequim (pronounced like swim but with a “k”, Skwim) for the northern parks.  If you only have a week, you won’t likely have time for the southeastern parks.

Day 1:  Arrive in Seattle and head to the Seattle Space Needle for a 360° view of the surrounding area and dinner at one of several nearby Queen Anne restaurants.  Stay overnight at any one of several Seattle hotels.
Day 2:  Visit Pike Place Market for morning coffee at the original Starbucks and fresh donuts at Daily Dozen.  Consider picking up fruits, vegetables, and fish from the market.  Depart Seattle for lunch in Port Townsend via the Bainbridge Island ferry. travel advice for military The drive is a little less than an hour, but to arrive in Port Townsend before most restaurants stop serving lunch, you’ll want to arrive early enough to make a ferry departure prior to 11am.  From Port Townsend, drive to La Push via Forks with plans to stay 3 nights at Quileute Oceanside Resort.  This is a long, often scenic drive, but you’ll want to save the stops for the return trip (along travel advice for military the same road) so that you can reach Forks for grocery staples (there’s a small store in La Push if you don’t opt to go Forks).  You should have time for an afternoon stroll on the beach and to watch the sun set.

Day 5:  Depart La Push for Port Angeles via Sol Duc.  Once in the Sol Duc park, you’ll want to stop at the designated areas along the right side of the road for views of the Sol Duc River. During salmon season, you’ll see the fish miraculously making their way up stream.  During the rest of the year, you’ll have to settle for pristine waters and falls.  Up the road, is the trail head leading to Sol Duc Falls. Thanks again. I picked Whidbey because I thought it would be easier to get there on the weekend. I heard that the ferry lines can be long to San Juan Islands. Maybe this would not be true for weekend of Sept 22nd? I do not want to book ahead, since weather may be iffy.
The Mukilteo-Whidbey ferry is nothing like the San Juan Islands ferry - much shorter, much more frequent, travel to go no reservations needed (nor accepted.) In late September I'd be surprised if you have to wait more than 20 min. for the ferry, depending on when you get into the lineup. Plus it's a much shorter drive from Seattle (25 min. vs. nearly 2 hours for Anacortes.)
I love the loop trip described above - in either direction, though your choice might depend on what meal you want to enjoy in Langley, but be sure to stop for pie at Greenbank. Langley and La Connor are both adorable. We also saw lots of bald eagles while driving Whidbey Island. A great day trip. Ferry shouldn't be a problem, but deception pass is worth the drive north.
Ditto, another vote for Gardyloo's travel to go proposed itinerary. That's great. I never really thought about it, when we go we just drive up the the freeway from Seattle to the ferry at Mukilteo, drive the car on to the ferry, travel to go go over to Whidbey, travel to go drive around. I like the Captain Whidbey Inn there. I actually prefer Whibey over SJI, the San Juans are just a lot more hassle/distance to get to. Whidbey is fun, sweet, easy!!!

We are planning to fly into Seattle in mid July and have 7-8 days. It is our second visit to Seattle so we will spend one day in the city then plan to rent a car and either explore the OP or Cascades loop.
Go west! You will have plenty of time to explore Olympic National Park, including hiking and exploring but not (in my opinion) biking. Maybe I'm wrong...if so, kaleberg will be along to straighten me out.
We stayed at Lake Crescent Lodge which was very nice. Did some kayaking on the lake- both times lake was mirror smooth and stellar conditions. There is a hike to a waterfall you can do right from the grounds at the Lodge. We also drove to Hurricane Ridge which was spectacular.
In the Cascades we stayed outside of the western town of Winthrop. Winthrop is kind of fun, we had a beer everyday at the the Old Schoolhouse Inn- has a deck overlooking cheap hotels in paris the water and is a nice gathering spot.
The Olympic National Park offers more variety, as it includes its rain forest, the ocean, and the mountains themselves. Neah Bay has an ineresting Museum of an excavated village. From there it is a short drive to the head of the trail that goes to the Cape Flattery headlands.
PS We used to like to stay at Sun Mountain Lodge years ago, and we still go there for the view and a drink or light meal in the Wolf Creek Bar. Unfortunately, it has become a very precious place, the feel for which you can get from reading the dining room dinner menu: Pork Chops $41, etc.
2 nights - Lake Chelan (we stayed in a timeshare but lots of lodging choices) - lots of summer fun to enjoy: water sports, wine tasting, blueberry picking, lots of summer pies (hmmm!); take the boat to Stehikin and do the Rainbow Falls hike (also stop at Stehikin Pastry Co);
2 nights Lake Cresent Lodge - primarily so you can hike Hurricane Ridge Trail and be sure to allow time as you leave to stop in Port Townsend in the afternoon to get ice-cream on main street at Elevated Ice Cream Co. It's a cute little town too.
On both itineraries, you could expand the time in each area by dropping Langley. I just think driving Deception Pass is one of the more awe inspiring views, I love the Bald Eagle sightings, the pies at Greenbank and all the shopping and eating that the island has to offer. We actually rented a house on Whidbey cheap hotels in paris for one vacation and had a terrific time on the beach and exploring the island.

This blog has often covered transit-accessible hikes that can be accomplished in a day. But many of the most beautiful areas of Washington are out-of-reach of the day-hiker even one who relies on a personal vehicle to get them to the trailhead. This summer, two of us set out to see if we could use transit to reach some of these more remote destinations. The result was an eight-day excursion that brought us from downtown Seattle past our State’s capitol, through the heart of Olympic National Park, over international waters to Victoria BC, and home, relying entirely on public transportation and our own feet.
The trip started with a five-leg transit journey from Seattle to Lake Quinault Lodge , on the south-west edge of Olympic National Park. The following is a weekday itinerary: the trip is possible royal caribbean cruise ships on a weekend, but transfers royal caribbean cruise ships don’t work out quite as well.
The itinerary above worked out perfectly for us: the short transfer times were a bit worrisome (the latter two buses run only a few times each day) but we faced no significant delays. Our bus from Olympia to Aberdeen was running about 15 minutes behind schedule: we were a bit concerned at first, but were reassured when the driver got on the radio to make sure drivers of other routes would wait for connecting passengers.
The route 60 to Quinault Lodge is probably one of the most beautiful (and cheapest) public transit rides that exists. It travels up the narrow royal caribbean cruise ships two-lane highway through hills dense with trees, dropping passengers in unlikely locations where they proceed on foot up rutted dirt roads.  Our destination, Quinault Lodge, was much more obvious. We arrived at 12:35 on the dot, still amazed that a $1.00 bus ride could take us 45 miles and right to the south-western edge of Olympic National Park.
The ranger station is steps from the lodge: after obtaining our back-country permits ($5.00 plus $2.00 per person per night, no reservations required) and bear canister ($3.00 suggested donation), we were ready for the hike. The main trailhead is 14 miles past Lake Quinault up a dirt road. There is a private shuttle service available (for information, contact the ranger station: 360-565-3100), but we were preparing to hike it when a father and son with extra room in their pickup offered to drive us the first ten miles. We gladly accepted and chalked it up as carpooling, an acceptable alternative to transit.
From the North Fork Trailhead, the trail lazily meanders up the north fork of the Quinault River for about 17 miles. The first day we hiked late into the evening under the cedar trees, catching glimpses of deer in the dense brush and even an owl hidden among the branches above us. The second day took us over the 3600 foot Low Divide between the Quinault and Elwha rivers. The climb over the divide is short but intense, offering glimpses of sunny meadows and an impressive waterfall before the trail descends again into the trees of the Elwha river valley.
By the third morning, we had reached the Hayes River Ranger Hut, just 16 miles from the Whiskey Bend trailhead to the north down the Elwha river.  Continuing down would have enabled a shorter trip, but we chose instead to turn east and head up the Hayes Pass trail. This opened us up to three days and 35 miles of hiking through colorful alpine meadows sliced royal caribbean cruise ships by clear streams, cresting high passes with views of Mt. Olympus, sliding royal caribbean cruise ships down late-summer snow fields, and spending nights in the crisp air of the higher elevations. Our trail took us over four steep passes: Hayes pass, Lost Pass, Cameron Pass, and Grand pass.  The extra miles and difficult trails were well-worth the added effort: this is some of the most beautiful back-country either of us have experienced, and three days to stroll through it was far too short.
By Friday morning, we reached the Obstruction Point parking lot, and opted to hike the eight-mile dirt road toward the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center . The road follows the ridge-line, royal caribbean cruise ships and offers clear views south toward the glaciers of Mt. Olympus and the high terrain we traversed during the week. The normal visitor to Hurricane Ridge arrives via the winding 17-mile highway from Port Angeles. No public transit yet exists on this road, but the alternative a steep ten-mile trek around Mt. Angeles, over Klahhane ridge, royal caribbean cruise ships and down past beautiful Lake Angeles would be worth a trip in itself.  We hiked the first part of this on Friday evening, and spent our final night in the park at the edge of Lake Angeles, under this summer’s only blue moon.
The trail down from Lake Angeles ends at the park entrance gate, where one must walk, hitch-hike or (as the helpful ranger suggested) call a cab for the final six miles into Port Angeles. We opted to walk the distance royal caribbean cruise ships (part-way along the road, part-way along the Peabody Creek Trail) to the Wilderness Information Center in town, where we returned our well-used bear canister. Other endpoint options include exiting the National Park anywhere on Highway 101 to the north or northwest and flagging down the Clallam County Transit route 14, which runs from Forks to Port Angeles and will stop to pick up riders almost royal caribbean cruise ships anywhere that is safe and visible.
From Port Angeles, it is possible to return to Seattle via transit connections to Port Townsend and then a multi-agency Sea-Tac route promoted by Jefferson County Transit [ pdf ]. For the sake of the other riders during the 3.5 hour trip, grab a shower at the William Shore Memorial Pool  in Port Angeles: they charge just a few dollars for the privilege.  Another return option is to take the Dungeness Line , a private shuttle from Port Angeles to Sea-Tac, with stops along the way, albeit at a much higher price.  Finally (and at significantly greater cost), you can choose to head to the water and catch the Coho ferry to Victoria, followed by the Victoria Clipper  back into Seattle. Passports are required, and reservations are strongly recommended on the Clipper.
We chose the latter option, meeting a friend for two pampered nights royal caribbean cruise ships in downtown Victoria, where we gave our blistered feet a much-deserved rest while enjoying Victoria’s beautiful views, historic sites, incredible food and wine, and the free outdoor music of the Vancouver Island Blues Bash . We set foot back in Seattle eight days after leaving, having ridden four buses, a train, two ferries, and having walked 85 miles through some of the most beautiful mountains in the world.
(Also wish there was daily service to Anacortes like Greyhound provided some years back, would make it easier royal caribbean cruise ships to visit the San Juans off-season when the Victoria Clipper does not serve Friday Harbor.)
Elbar: ST 510 to Everett, SKAT 90X to Mt. Vernon, Island transit 411 to Anacortes Park and Ride, SKAT 410 to the ferry. Leave downtown a bit before 7:00, get to the ferry dock at 9:35. A lot cheaper than a Greyhound, too.
That s great that Jefferson Transit put together a PDF to make sorting out the trip to PA easier to figure out. I used to do it a decade ago with some regularity, but I cobbled my plan together with paper schedules. Both 3:40 trips have alarmingly close connections, but I never had any problems tell the bus driver what you re trying to do and (within reason) they ll make sure other buses hold.
Speaking of beautiful rides on public transit, Jefferson transit will also take you to that trailhead, through Forks, but along a beautiful stretch of Oceanfront. (Clallam transit runs a Port Angeles to Forks route.) The Quinalt reservation also runs a bus that connects this trailhead to Forks and Grays Harbor, but also Ocean Shores.
This is incredible. In planning my move back to Seattle, I have been under the impression that remote areas were essentially inaccessible by public transportation. I m an avid hiker/backpacker, so I thought I d have to own (or rent/ZipCar) royal caribbean cruise ships a car to enjoy the wilderness.
The Olympic Peninsula is ringed by rural transit service. Geometrically, it s relatively royal caribbean cruise ships easy to provide lifeline service, as there s basically one main road and almost every town is on or near that road. The I-5 corridor is similarly fairly accessible. The Cascades and eastern Washington are much more challenging, and I ve yet to figure out a good way to get around which doesn t involve a car. Even so, the best transit hike on my bucket list is Stevens Pass to Stehekin via Glacier Peak and the PCT. Trailways to Stevens Pass , walk 100 miles to High Bridge, take the Park Service shuttle to Stehekin, take the Lady of the Lake to Chelan, LINK Transit to Wenatchee , and then the Empire Builder back to Seattle. Doing that in about 8 days would be ideal, royal caribbean cruise ships and Glacier Peak is not to be missed! I hiked 35 miles from Holden royal caribbean cruise ships Village to Image Lake to Stehekin royal caribbean cruise ships in 2008, and it s still the hiking highlight of my life.
I did Rattlesnake royal caribbean cruise ships Ledge car-free once, but that required biking down the Snoqualmie Valley trail from at least North Bend. (In actuality, I also did Issaquah- North Bend one way on top of that). By connecting to the John Wayne Trail, you could potentially access the entire I-90 corridor with nothing but transit and a mountain bike, if you have enough time.
Twice, I ve done the full Rattlesnake Mtn trail by bus to North Bend by hiking a 21 mile loop: 7 mile Snoqalmie Valley trail to Rattlesnake Lake, then 11 miles along Rattlesnake Ridge to Snoqualmie Point, then 3 miles back to North Bend via road. Just right for a full day, but too bad there s no bus stop at Snoqualmie Point.
A month ago I did the PCT from Cascade Locks to McKenzie Pass in about 8 days, using Amtrak to Vancouver and back from Eugene, plus local buses (Clark Skamania Counties) from Vancouver royal caribbean cruise ships and an easy hitchhike from McKenzie Pass. My husband and I did the drive from San Francisco down to Carmel, then up to Yosemite, Tahoe and back, last year, and loved it. We are thinking of returning this year and this time driving in the other direction up the Pacific Highway. As we live abroad, we will have to fly into and out of San Francisco. We will have about 14 days for the trip (excluding the time flying into and out of San Fran).
I am thinking travel nurse agencies of doing a loop - driving from San Francisco up to Seattle, our ultimate aim being to spend about 3-4 days in Olympic National Park doing some hiking and just admiring the scenery. Other must sees which I can gather from this forum and general internet research are: Point Reyes, Portland, Oregon, the Pacific Coast in general, and maybe Crater Lake if it is not too out of the way. We would like a mix of city and nature on the trip, so will probably spend a couple of days in San Fran and Seattle.
(ii) how we should plan our route - I understand that it is better to drive down the coast rather than up it because of the right-hand drive in the USA, so would it make sense to drive inland when we are heading up to Seattle i.e. hit Oregon and Crater Lake first, and then after Seattle and the Olympic National Park, hug the coast on the way down? If so how much time should I budget to get up to Seattle, and how much time coming back down?
Your instincts travel nurse agencies are, in my opinion, spot on for this trip. This is a trip that is certainly feasible within 14 days even as a complete loop, at a relaxed pace, and with plenty of stops for some scenic hiking. As you note, it is probably better to come south along the coast so that you have the pullouts and coastal side roads on your side of the highway. That means you should head north along an inland route to get the full benefit of doing a loop and maximizing your time on 'new road'. The inland route would generally follow the Coast Ranges and/or Central Valley in California and the Cascades through Oregon and Washington. You might, say, string together visits to Lassen Volcano travel nurse agencies National Park, Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area, Crater Lake National Park, Mount Hood, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mount Rainier National Park on your way north. Southbound should pretty much take care of itself, but be sure to include both Fort Clatsop and the Oregon Dunes.
For several reasons, I would put this trip off until as late in the August/September travel nurse agencies time frame as you can. I've done a lot of reading on the net, as well as of guide books, and think that maybe it is too ambitious to drive the loop up to Seattle and back down to San Fran, as I don't want to be spending hours each day in the car if we can help. Am now thinking of either flying or taking the Amtrak from SF up to Seattle where we will rent a car, and then driving back down to SF. (I am aware that the car rental company will slap on a one-way car charge if we do this)
Would really appreciate some help with this itinerary as I'm not sure if we are being too ambitious. If possible, would like to not have to spend too much time on the road each day ( too much being more than 3-4 hours) and where possible to have a decent amount of time to explore each place, not do a hit and run kind of tour. I realize that there are lots of beautiful places to see and that we won't be able to see everything if we want a slightly slower pace, but that's fine by us.
Day 6: Seattle - Port Angeles (by ferry - I think we can take the car onto the ferry, please travel nurse agencies correct me if I'm wrong!!): explore Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent. Any advice on whether we should stay in Port Angeles or Lake Crescent Lodge?
Day 7: Port Angeles - Kalaloch Lodge or Lake Quinault Lodge: explore Pacific travel nurse agencies Ocean beaches, Ruby Beach and Lake Quinault(nb. travel nurse agencies we are not really keen on seeing the rainforest aspect of the park as we live in a tropical country and get plenty of rainforest here). Is it actually possible to drive and see the west-side loop of US 101 in a day or will it be too rushed?
Would very much appreciate comments on this itinerary. In particular: is there anything you would suggest travel nurse agencies we drop/include; are the driving times realistic; any recommendations for driving routes to take so we avoid jams and just do the slow windy drives when the scenery is worth seeing?
Other places that attracted me when I was doing the research, but which I think we don't have time to fit in, are the Puget Sound Islands, a trip to Vancouver (which travel nurse agencies I think would need at least a night's stay) the Northern Cascades.
(i) For days 5/6: One option (A) is to stay overnight in Whidbey so that I can explore this a bit, and some people on the Whidbey forum have helpfully given suggestions of where to stay and what to do. The other option travel nurse agencies (B) I am considering is to just drive through Whidbey, getting to Port Townsend and driving straight to Lake Crescent, all in a day. Is option B too ambitious? How long do you estimate it would take, all in, including a lunch break and stopping travel nurse agencies for pictures etc as we make our way down Whidbey? The main reason for my thinking of doing the straight drive to Lake Crescent is so we don't have to do a one night stay in Whidbey - I just find it a hassle to unpack and pack up again. Also, I figure we will see plenty of the sea/nature in general from Port Angeles ONP.
(ii) Day 5: I'm a bit worried about the border crossing as it seems from what I've read that it can be quite a long wait. I've come across travel nurse agencies a suggestion of driving to Bellingham the night before so that the border crossing is done in the evening when the traffic travel nurse agencies is light, instead of waiting till the morning. I'm slightly reluctant to do this because it will cut our time in Vancouver and again, would mean that we have to leave our previous accommodation andspend one night in Bellingham. However, if it will really save significant time at the border crossing it is definitely something worth considering. Any advice on this? We were originally planning to pick up the car in Vancouver at about 9 or 10am on Day 5.
I've already booked the rental car for pick up in Vancouver and return in Seattle. I've tried checking out the ferry schedules but it seems they aren't out for October yet so I have no idea what the timing is like in fall. Will the fall schedule be the same as the summer schedule?
