The Cubs begin their penultimate homestand of the season with three games against Ryne Sandberg and the Phillies. After spending the weekend battling the Phils, the Cubs will face the Marlins for three games before a day off on Thursday. The homestand wraps up next weekend with three versus the Brewers.
The Cubs must figure out how to play better ball at Wrigley Field. The Cubs are just 25-41 in their home park this season compared las vegas nascar tickets to a 31-36 mark on the road. The Cubs are 63-84 at home over the past two seasons.
The Cubs dropped las vegas nascar tickets two of three in Philly at the beginning of the month and will face a Phillies team that is playing good baseball. The Phillies are 8-6 under their new interim manager, Ryne Sandberg .
The Cubs offense will not catch a break during this series. After today’s matchup of Jeff Samardzija and Roy Halladay , Chris Rusin is scheduled to face Cliff Lee on Saturday las vegas nascar tickets afternoon. Jake Arrieta is expected to wrap up the series on Sunday afternoon against Kyle Kendrick .
Ryne Sandberg makes his return to Wrigley Field this afternoon, a place he called home for 16 years, and where his number flies for every game to honor his Hall of Fame career. Sandberg is one of the greatest players to put on a Cubs’ uniform and is arguably the best second baseman to ever play the game.
A lot will be made over the next three days about Sandberg being back at Wrigley and managing against Dale Sveum and the Cubs. The bottom line is that the Phillies have a much better big league roster than the Cubs right now and on paper, the next three days figure to be very challenging for the Cubs. Sandberg has posted a 8-6 record in his first 14 games as a big league manager las vegas nascar tickets and is doing everything he can so the Phillies’ front office will remove the interim tag from his title this winter.
The reigning NL Co-Player of the Week should come out with something to prove this afternoon. Jeff Samardzija has been very, very good over his last two starts and has been solid since he hit rock bottom in Philly back on August 8. Samardzija posted back-to-back wins against the Nationals and Padres in what was his second best two-game stretch of the year.
Jeff Samardzija las vegas nascar tickets is 2-0 in his last two starts with a 1.59 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP. Samardzija has allowed three runs on 13 hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts over his last 17 innings. Samardzija is 2-2 in his last five starts las vegas nascar tickets with a 5.29 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP.
Like a majority of his teammates, Samardzija has struggled at Wrigley Field and in day games this year. Samardzija is 3-5 in 14 home starts las vegas nascar tickets with a 4.55 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP while teams have hit a robust .271 against him … and in day games this season, Samardzija is 2-7 in 12 games with a 4.81 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.
Jeff Samardzija makes his third career start against the Phillies this afternoon. Samardzija was horrible back on August 8 and allowed nine runs on 11 hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. For his career, Samardzija las vegas nascar tickets is 1-3 in eight appearances, two starts, against las vegas nascar tickets Philly with a 12.83 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP … and the Phils have hit .361 against him.
Roy Halladay is making just his second start since going on the DL in May and undergoing surgery on his right shoulder. Halladay posted a quality start against the Diamondbacks in his return the mound and gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings. Halladay was not too good early in the season before going on the DL, but showed spurts of the dominant pitcher he once was.
I ve been on the Cubs season ticket waiting list for close to 10 years, and have just now been informed I will be invited to purchase season tickets for the 2014 season .gee thanks! I m not going to say never, but based on what I expect the cost to be let s just say not very likely.
If anything, I d expect the price to go up, what with the renovations being approved and all. If people didn t show up, that might make them consider dropping prices, but with people still going to games and them needing to bring in more money, I d expect an increase.
I am in a group that shares season tickets. This is no secret cause a lot of people did this last year, but we moved from 400 level to 500 level. The tickets in 500 level are very reasonable, actually downright cheap. The price range is $10-$35, depending on the game. The 400 level tickets are more than double that. Until the cubs get good again, no one wants the 400 level, las vegas nascar tickets they are just too expensive for a lousy product. Scalpers have been taking a bath on them last couple years. (awww)
Me and Jr. Samples can t wait to watch a lineup filled with the likes of Ransom, Gillespie, las vegas nascar tickets McDonald, las vegas nascar tickets Barney shoot, even Castro and Rizzo don t mean no harm to anybody. Throw in JC Boscan, and I could just Luuuuuv this team! Why wouldn t everybody want to be a season ticket holder?
People call me crazy for being optimistic about a team I love here, especially with evil Dale Sveum as manager, but look it as an investment. If the plan goes right and they start winning, you ll be banking on those tickets again.
Off topic a bit, but unless the Cubs still think they can trade Gregg before tomorrow s waiver deadline, I can t understand why Gregg is still closing instead of Strop or Parker. Let s see if the kids can handle the 9th
Far cry from the 6-year $50M deal that was originally reported, but I do remember hearing there were some questions about his elbow that stalled that deal, likely leading to the reduced price. At 3/$12M it is a good gamble to take regardless.
Sveum is an idiot, wins and losses don t matter, it is all about development. He is terrible at developing these players as he pulls them out of the game, right when there was a chance las vegas nascar tickets to gain some experience. It is not like he is even over 100 pitches, why does he baby these guys like that, back in the day guys threw 200 pitches if that is what was needed.
No. letting him blow it after giving up a 4 spot was. Do you get it now? I will explain it to you John. Shark had a 5-0 lead. He gave up 4 in the top of the 6th with some of those hits absolutely being CRUSHED. Now .The game is now 5-4 Cubs. Am I going too fast for you? They have a lead going into the 7th inning. Would it be better for Shark and the TEAM to use your resources and WIN a game? Shark got LIT UP in the 6th. To not even have the bullpen up to start the 7th????Go Dale!
YOU are the one that started out by saying how it would have been positive to Shark to get him the win. I counter that there is very little positive to Shark about a measly W after getting pounded in the 6th inning UNLESS he can come out and wash that stink off by tossing a clean frame.
Right, because the guys in the bullpen need more experience. Right. LOL. Shark is the SP that the club needs to make a huge decision about. And according to you Russell has already been ruined by Sveum with his 48 innings pitched this year. What a joke.
According to me Russell has been ruined by Sveum? When have I said that? I have said from day 1 that Russell couldn t get righties out no matter who the manager is. I am glad you think I have that much influence on how Russell does. LMAO!!!!
Actually I have never said he was a good manager, just don t think he is as bad as some want to make him out to be. He is an inexperienced manager, like they all are when they get their first jobs. He is learning and the way you learn is to make mistakes. But what looks like mistakes to us, sometimes is the Cubs wanting to put players in different positions to see how they do.
I am not convinced he will be around when this all turns around, but if you look at some of the better managers, they have had bad years as well. Cub fans have always been envious of LaRussa, yet Cardinal fans complained about his moves just like Cub fans do about Sveum. It sometimes is justified, but most of the time, I believe it is the things we don t know that make us think they are making the wrong decision.
I only have run kids teams (up to 16) but I am amazed how many times after games, when asked why I did this or that, that when I tell them the why, that I hear, I didn t know that and then they say well that changes what we thought. This is on a kids team, can t even imagine how many things we don t know going on with a 25 man major league roster that effects a managers decisions las vegas nascar tickets on a day to day basis.
You are clueless las vegas nascar tickets .managers make decisions, players play the game. Players at the major league level play every play to win. Managers, in times like these, allow players more rope so to speak to, but if they were in a pennant race, Samardzija would have been yanked in the 6th.
I understand Tony s point on developing Samardzija, but what about pulling him when he s obviously losing las vegas nascar tickets it and preserving a win for him. The guy is 28 years old. How much more time does he need. He needed to bear down and he didn t.
Seeing las vegas nascar tickets how a pitcher works when losing it is a valuable thing, it is also good experience for the pitcher to try and work through it. It s not like he had a high pitch count. He is 28, but much younger in terms of pitching experience and wear and tear on his arm.
Like you said yesterday wins and losses aren t really important at this point in the year. Yesterday we blew a sure victory, it was steaming hot at Wrigley, las vegas nascar tickets and they quit serving Old Styles LOL, but a cooler las vegas nascar tickets head prevails today and I ll give Sveum the benefit of the doubt on keeping him in. I think if anything Samardzija has proved he is not going to be the pitcher everyone has hoped he could be. He is younger than 28 in pitching experience but he s been involved with big time sports for a quite awhile, and at 28 years of age, if he doesn t have the mental toughness to not fold under pressure now, then I have to wonder if he ever will.
Came late to this lively thread. Maybe some of you mentioned it before, but it seems that the Shark loses composure las vegas nascar tickets when the fielders mess up. That line drive that Lake missed on a dive, on the replay seemed a MI
