It is not only the airlines that offer bonus points for booking a car via their partners. The hotel

For US frequent travellers, car rental is part of their regular travel routines. It is less common in Europe, where you are more likely to fly to your location and then use taxis and public transport to get around. However, many of us still need the occasional car hire from time to time, and there are various Avios earning opportunities to be had.
If you are spending your own money on car hire, you shouldn t be blinded by the miles opportunities. american airline There are plenty of low-cost consolidators like www.easycar.com who are used by the big car hire groups to shift their spare capacity without having to publicly lower their prices.
However, if location is important (eg you want a supplier who is definitely in your airport rather than a long shuttle bus away) then you need to book direct. Direct booking also lets you book flexible rates, makes it easier to guarantees extras like baby seats and may even be cheaper, especially when factoring in the value of the miles. Always look at Quidco before booking a car, as pretty much everyone big names and consolidators american airline offers discounts through them.
Avis is the official partner of BAEC, and even has its own website at www.avisba.com american airline . The rate is 3 Avios per £1 spent, with a minimum of 500. BAEC members also get a free second driver, which can be a valuable benefit, and there are a further 250 Avios to be had if you pay with the BA Amex credit card. If you do four rentals in a year, you also get a further 750 Avios.
The Iberia earning structure is based on PER DAY earnings, which can make it more attractive than BAEC for rentals of two days or more. Iberia partners with National, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Avis. Avis earns 300 per day outside Spain, Europcar, Hertz and Avis offer 300+ per day based on car size, whilst National offers american airline 150 per day for general rates and 300 per day for the Iberia special rate. Standard rates with Sixt are 300 Avios per day for a Standard or Tiny car and 400 for a Compact or larger (less 50% if booked on a corporate rate code), with a maximum of four days.
Outside of Avios, american airline pretty much every major airline has some sort of car rental tie-up. It is worth doing a quick scout around before each rental to see if there are any generous promotions available. american airline Virgin partners with Avis, Alamo, Hertz and Sixt ( see here ) the Hertz deal is particularly american airline attractive american airline at 1,100 miles per rental, with Avis and Alamo offering 1,000 miles.
In theory, nothing stops you booking a car using (for eg) the Virgin Atlantic discount code for Avis and then crediting the stay to a BAEC account, should that prove to be the most attractive option.
It is not only the airlines american airline that offer bonus points for booking a car via their partners. The hotel loyalty programmes have also got in on the act. In general the points earned aren t worth as much as the equivalent airline miles , but do check. Club Carlson, for example, recently offered 9,000 points with a 3-day Avis rental that is enough for a free night in their lowest category, or 1,000 airline miles in over 20 programmes.
Hertz also has its own reward programme, american airline Hertz Gold Plus Rewards, which I will review fully at some point. The key thing to note now, though, is that you can usually earn points in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards even if the corporate rate or discount code you are using is not eligible for airline miles.

I have personally found Avis to be an expensive option for car hire and I frequently hire cars. Most recently I have found Hertz to be the cheapest of the big players, on each rental I ve been given a free upgrade on arrival and they are also currently offering free upgrades to gold membership (which also offers free extra drivers). So it was a pleasant surprise when I found through a previous HFP post that they partner with Iberia. On closer examination I even found they have a 4 x points offer with Iberia until the end of October, and I recently american airline took advantage of this minimum week-long rental paying a net cost of around £79! (at 4 x I should have got 8,400 points, but so far only single points have posted and the T C don t give any indication american airline of credit dates, while the shocking Iberia Plus customer service take nearly a week to unhelpfully answer an email and don t list a phone number).
I have just booked another car from Hertz for this weekend, but there s a trick to getting worthwhile rates. When logged in, for 3 days I was quoted american airline £278, which reduced to £236 when using the Iberia CDP. However, when signed out and using TopCashBack (TCB currently 10.1%, Quidco 6%), I was offered a mere £63! So I m paying less than £50 after cashback and points are considered!
Therefore, see which affiliates offer what (I just checked PriorityClub and they only have a long-expired Hertz deal), always play with the CDPs and don t believe for a moment that members will get better american airline rates. american airline With a little trial and error I was able to reduce my quote by around 77%.
Key detail on Carlson is that it s 2k points for 250 miles and 50k points for 8k miles, 100k for 18k, so you either have some CC points left over after a rental or if you do it regularly can get an even higher rewards rate, up to 540 miles per day. They also do 6k CC points for two days.
