If you only have a short amount of time in Rome, what are the absolute must-see sites to visit in Italy’s majestic capital? We asked our great tour guides in Rome what they would include and here it is – our 7 top things to visit in Rome.
When in Rome…and yet not in Rome. The Vatican is officially a whole other country. It’s a definite must-see during any visit to Rome. Standing under Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel masterpieces is a privilege not to be denied. Don’t miss the St Peter’s Basilica as well. That has a separate entry to the Vatican and is accessible from St Peter’s Square.
No self-respecting traveler to Rome can miss tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain. Not only a primary aqueduct, it is also the largest Baroque fountain in Italy’s capital city. Built by Pope Clement XII,  it’s his papal crest crowning the top of the Trevi Fountain.
The widest steps in Europe, it’s a wonderful place to pull up a step and take a moment to enjoy your surroundings. At the base is the Fontana della Barcaccia – the Fountain of the Old Boat – that dates back to the 1620s. (Word to the wise, tempting as it may be you’re not allowed to eat on the steps and can be fined for doing so!)
Again with a history dating back to the 1 st century AD, this splendid square was once host to ancient Roman games. Now it is centerpieced by the breathtaking Fontana del Moro and Fountain of Neptune. Lined with buildings each more beautiful than the next (as well as some of the most expensive coffee shops in Rome) this is certainly one of Rome’s most unique piazzas.
Our Rome in One Glorious Day discount tour Rome  package covers all the above (except the Spanish Steps) over two fantastic tours with our expert guides, including Vatican and Coliseum tickets, as well as a pre-dinner drink with traditional hors d oeuvres.
We love Italy and we’re here to share with you some tidbits from life in the Bel Paese – be it about the food, art, history, culture or some of the fun things going on that make up the mass of reasons why this truly is Bella Italia.
