I remember marco island vacation rentals an advertisement that sang ‘There’s never a dull moment marco island vacation rentals in Barbados’ We recently traveled for a week to Barbados and found that this refrain is completely true! We raced around cramming in as many activities as possible and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Detailed reviews of all our excursions are in progress but I wanted to offer a snap-shot marco island vacation rentals of our adventures with this summary.
Depart Dominica. Airport had been closed on Friday due to bad weather on the island and after a 2-hour drive to the airport we arrived marco island vacation rentals at 9am to find crammed marco island vacation rentals with about 1000 people (it’s a very small airport so this number was large!) We were supposed to leave at 10:40am. However after a very long and uncertain wait we eventually left at 7pm!! Yes, a 10-hour wait in an airport! I now have a wealth of information to share on how to keep young children entertained marco island vacation rentals in airports so watch out for that article coming marco island vacation rentals soon!
Arrived marco island vacation rentals in Barbados after 8pm and found out all our luggage was missing – it was a trial of a day. I had missed the collection for the rental vehicle but we got a taxi easily and efficiently outside the airport and arrived at Karibu Garden , our home for the week at 9:30pm. Totally surprised the children when we walked into the apartment and met their Grandma, from England who had flown in on the same day!! Joyful reunion was followed by a crashing to deep sleep.
Our plans for the beach were cancelled due to lack of swim suits so we headed to Art Splash playground which features marco island vacation rentals a wide range of children’s play apparatus. They had an amazing time swinging, climbing, sliding, zip-lining, running and making new friends.
Navigated our way to the port in Bridgetown marco island vacation rentals to get on board the Jolly Roger Pirate Cruise . The children were dressed as Pirates and ready for adventure! Enjoyed the 4 hour cruise which included 2 stops for snorkeling where we saw fish and swam with turtles. Amarii jumped off the plank – twice!
With the fabulous assistance of my local friend Claire (who had helped immensely with advice and actions prior to the trip) we drove all the way up the island on the highway to reach the Barbados Wildlife Reserve . We met monkeys, walked around the forest and arrived at the neighbouring Grenade Signal Hall for the infamous ‘feeding marco island vacation rentals time’ where a wheelbarrow of food is emptied and attracts all the resident animals including monkeys, turtles, deer, birds and a strange rabbit-deer like creature which I can’t remember the name of. We walked around the rest of the reserve to see birds, snakes and other reptiles before marco island vacation rentals being completely rained out and running for the transport.
After the drive back south and grabbing some roti at Ackee Tree restaurant we crossed over the road to spend the rest of the afternoon at Accra Beach jumping waves and building castles in the powdery sand.
A quick phone call in the morning secured us places to go on board the Atlantis Submarine tour which began at 1pm. This was an exciting new experience for all of us although the kids were a little less thrilled than I expected. The staff were amazing and the dive to 145ft gave us a peek into unexplored territory. marco island vacation rentals A planned beach trip was rained out and we chilled at Karibu Garden for the rest of the afternoon.
We decided to experience the West Coast of Barbados and do a few stop-offs. First was Limegrove Lifestyle Centre where I needed to get some Aveda hair products from Glo Spa . Our budget didn’t extend marco island vacation rentals to shopping in the Cartier, Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren stores and it wasn’t the most appropriate place to hang out with 2 young children who wanted to tough ev-er-y-thing so we went speedily ahead to our next stop.
We read in the Barbados pocket guide about Island Plates restaurant in Speightstown that offered vegan food options and headed further up the road. We enjoyed a superbly delicious lunch there and were ready to hit the beach. Mullins Beach was our choice on the recommendation of a friend who had been a few weeks previously and enjoyed inflatable water slides and other kid paraphernalia. To our disappointment these were missing but we soon made up for it by building sandcastles and splashing in the clear (but cold) sea.
We finally learnt to program my Mum’s SatNav and drove breezily and easily all the way up to Harrisons Cave . I was impressed from the moment we drove in the parking lot and remained so all the way down to the caves. The caves were fabulous and we all LOVED the tour and the beauty of the underground nature. I’m going to rave on more in my full review marco island vacation rentals about it but I am so glad that we did this excursion and definitely recommend it.
After getting completely lost trying to deliver a letter to a colleague in St Thomas we saw signs to Huntes Gardens and having been told about it added it spontaneously to our itinerary. We certainly were not disappointed. It was an incredibly beautiful environment and I snapped over 100 pictures. Our visit was made extra special when we met with the owner and creator of the place, Anthony Hunte and were treated to his congenial hospitality.
With the SatNav no longer working we went back to the crinkled (and somewhat crappy) paper map. The choice was to head along the recommended East coast for fabulous views or try to get South as quickly as possible in order to hit the beach close to ‘home’. We opted for the latter and oh what a mistake that was!
All was well as we followed the bus signs ‘To City’ but after a wrong turn we saw ‘Out of City’ and tried to venture along finding a road that would take us back on track. As we headed into the rural hills of St Andrew it seemed wise to retrace our tyre tracks. We finally got on the right road with plenty of help from the locals marco island vacation rentals (who were EXTREMELY helpful throughout our entire trip – big up yourself Bajan people, you were all so friendly and kind!) However by this time we were hitting the outskirts of Bridgetown at rush hour on a Friday evening and spent over an hour in traffic – hot weather and exhaust fumes are not a great combination and our planned marco island vacation rentals beach trip was looking very unlikely. Top tip: do anything and everything to avoid rush hour traffic as there are so many vehicles on the road in Barbados.
We reached Hastings close to 7pm with 2 tired children and 2 tired adults. Quadruple tiredness was starting to make our perfect day wane. Then we finally found a restaurant that had been recommended to us: The Good Life .
This unassuming small café was home to the most delicious, delectable menu for us veggie loving people. We were spoiled for choice and tried hard not to dwell on the fact that we had only found it so close to the end of our stay. The tantalizing menu was surpassed only by the food when it arrived. Seriously the best vegan food I have ever tasted anywhere in the world! Healthy, wholesome, bursting with taste and vitality. The kids were ready to collapse by this point and getting whiny so we got the chocolate cake to go and bid farewell.
After collecting the last few groceries at Super Centre and giving the kids a final spin in the super duper trolleys we headed to a shoe shop and health store before reaching our morning destination of the Hastings Farmers Market .
With a range of local produce from jewellery to jam; smoothies, herbs and organic vegetables it was a vibrant and eclectic show case of local home-grown produce. Held at Art Splash , it also gave the children a chance to enjoy the fab playground for a couple of hours. This is definitely a chilled way to spend a Saturday morning!
The afternoon was spent with friends on Hastings Beach at the end of the boardwalk which stretches all the way up the coast to Accra Beach. marco island vacation rentals The beach was blissful with a man-made rock barrier to create shallow and clam sea waters that the children could safely jump and splash in without their floats. Only the overcast weather shortened our play or we would have been there until sunset.
This afternoon was a special surprise marco island vacation rentals for me as I had contacted a dear friend from the UK who I had not seen in 10 years. She arranged to meet us at the beach but had not told me her sister, also a dear friend of mine, who resides in the UK would also be with her. She had also not told her sister that I would be there either and I was greeted by ecstatic shouts of my name as she recognized me with total surprise. A fabulous reunion and a perfect way to end our stay in the beautiful island of Barbados!
The SatNav got us quickly to the airport in our overstuffed vehicle of luggage. A staff member of Drive-A-Matic was efficiently marco island vacation rentals with us in the parking lot before we had even unloaded all of our things. After his inspection and
