We had a nice trip on Alaska Air last weekend. This was my 6th or 7th trip to Portland in the last year, so I ve zeroed in on Alaska flight 140. It leaves Anchorage around 11:25am, arriving PDX at 4:00pm. It s nonstop. I paid w-a-y more than I wanted ($650) because I waited too long. But I used my Alaska Air Visa $100 companion fare for Christy ($139 with taxes). So it worked out to $345 each. This plane was a 737-900 with power outlets, so we were able to charge our iPhones during the flight. Plus, the Gogo inflight internet stays connected all the way to the Lower 48.
I have the Global Express card, so MOST of the time (not all the time) I get the pre-check line at TSA. Of course, I roll my eyes and sigh when the magic doesn t work and it s back to the toothpaste-grubbing scope-and-grope line with the rest of the human race. But it happens occasionally. Randomness, right? I try and tell the TSA folks that the real criminals fly on private planes. They looked at me like I m from Mars.
TRAVEL NOW certificates. True confession: I never thought I would use these certificates. After all—I plan ahead! But BEHOLD, I used one the other day when I needed a last-minute one-way ticket. It saved me 30 percent. You get two of these each year.
I cannot overstate the benefits of Alaska Airlines’ credit card from Bank of America . Just for signing up, you get a 25,000-mile bonus, which is enough for a free ticket between Alaska and the Lower 48.
Plus, there is a $99 (PLUS taxes + fees) companion fare certificate each year. You purchase your first coach ticket and your companion goes for $99 plus the tax. To the Lower 48, it works out to about $120. To Mexico, it’s more like $142, depending on your destination. AWESOME deal!
MORE destinations in the fall. Alaska Airlines recently announced new service to Baltimore (starts Sept. 2), Albuquerque (starts Sept. 18)and Detroit (starts Sept. 4)! And, subject to government approval, Alaska will resume flights in CANCUN nonstop car rental agencies in cozumel mexico from Seattle Nov. 2!
