Friendly, courteous staff, very comfortable bed, adjustable heating/a/c, excellent food at the restaurant and a totally quiet and clean hotel right next to Terminal 5 .... what more could one ask for? Not cheap, but worth it to recover from a long flight or be at the terminal for an early morning flight.
My husband and I spent the night before a homebound morning flight to the US. We make a fall visit to London and Scotland every year and have spent the last night at the T5 Sofitel every year since the hotel opened.
As usual,we were pleasantly welcomed at check-in. My husband had a last minute errand to run nearby so I was shown to our room by a very courteous young man who trollied the luggage and made sure that I understood the security card system for the elevator and room.
The room is spacious for London with a king-size bed, a comfortable leather reclining chair with acompanying ottoman, and generous storage and mirrored desktop, flatscreen television, etc. I was especially happy with the room's well-placed and generous lighting which is also handily controlled at each side of the bed. The straight-to-sleeper is not bothered by late reader's directional reading light.
The bath is handsome and well-designed with the shower drain off-set from center so that the water doesnt puddle underfoot---a feature that we wished we-d thought about when re-doing our shower at home. There is a television installed at the head of the tub for the more leisurely bather.
The room was quiet, and the easy hotel-to-departures walkway makes rolling one's suitcases or using one of the waiting trollies easy and relieves any last-minute concern about timely arrival to check-in---another item to check off the my travelers' last minute to-do list.
Air travel is not as pleasant for me as it used to be, but we have found that spending our last night at the LHR Sofitel is a relaxing way to wind down from a busy visit and prepares us for another day of hectic airport security scrutiny. (Although, in fairness, I will say that LHR's is one of the best.)
When I checked in I was tired from a day of air travel. The front desk person started to offer upgraded room with free wi-fi, breakfast and a king bed. I took the upgrade, but wi-fi did not work and took to much energy to correct. No one even checked for breakfast on what room we were in, so I figured it was free for everyon. I felt ripped off.
This is a great hotel for anyone who needs to spend the night at Heathrow. It's not inexpensive but it's lovely, quiet, and you can walk from it right into Terminal 5. I've stayed there three times.
We loved the convienence of walkin off the plane and into the hotel. After Rome we were done with taxis. Wish we could have stayed longer, we were just overnight to catch our next flight. The beds were great but not the tepur pedic mattresses we were expecting.
Following a swift check in and entry into my room, I discovered an opened and partially eaten container of pasta in the in-room fridge. Obviously, housekeeping did not provide complete service. Making one wonder what else was missed. I was not comfortable with drinking glasses that where not sealed, so I hand washed one for my use. Other than that, a very convenient, relaxing and comfortable stay when it was desperately needed.
Lovely rooms, extremely clean, good noise control, polite staff and efficient service. Food was good especially breakfast, however a bit pricey. Very convenient for access to airport gates. I'd definitely stay there again.
My son who is a student and was travelling alone has checked in room 6214 on May 3rd 2011. I have tried numorous times to contact the hotel but in vain. One answering machine after the other "please hold" hundreds of times and I am still trying......The rate is very expensive for such poor customer service. We are Canadian citizens and we do not expect such treatment from our British friends. I hope my son is treated well.
