My husband and I have cruised on two other cruise lines in the past. This time we decided to try Carnival and compare them to the other cruise lines. I was not impressed by Carnival. We took a 5 day cruise to Key West and Cozumel on the Carnival Ecstasy. In comparison to the other cruise lines, Carnival s food was so-so, the entertainment was lacking and the Shore Excursion desk was not helpful.

We never ate at the buffet because it looked gross. The dining room was nice, but the food was just so-so. Not impressed.
The entertainment was blah. They had a musical theater type play on two nights but then they just kept repeating the same plays. This was a five day cruise venetian hotel casino and there was only free entertainment for two days. The comedians on board had shows each night, but they too were repetitive. The day the ship was at sea all day, there was a huge gap in entertainment. And unless you really like trivia, there was NOTHING else to do. Not impressed at all.
The shore excursion desk was not friendly and when we asked about a simple way to get to and from places at port, they sold us a Hop on, Hop off trolley that would take you places venetian hotel casino and you could get on and off as you please. It sounds nice, but it was $60 for two people and when we got on we found out that they don t return you to the ship - you had to find another way back. So we just paid $60 for what?? Then we found out when we docked venetian hotel casino that they had a free trolley that would take you to and from the ship and anywhere on the island but did the shore excursion desk mention this? NO!!! Not impressed.
Out of the three cruises venetian hotel casino we have done, this was by far our least favorite!! Not sure if it was the old ship, the cruise director not doing his job, or that the other cruise lines are just that much better.
