We want to do a cruise out of New York next summer but DH and I are having "discussions" on which ship to go on. We have sailed on Carnival and as much as I enjoyed that cruise, I wasn't over-joyed. We have never sailed Royal Caribbean.
I think you are right.......try as many of them as you can. If you stay on the same line over over, you never know what the other lines are like. I mean, you can always have a favorite line, but I think it limits you if you won't even give the others a try.
I agree with Denise, you need to try RCI. I've sailed the line twice and had pretty cheaper tickets for air flight good experiences both times. The same with Princess. I've also sailed on Carnival 5 or 6 times and had overall good experiences with that line as well. There's nothing like first hand experience to help sell your product!
