I have a post with questions on a trip for France Italy, thinking mostly France driving to have "freedom" of schedule, with a little time in Italy. An alternative we are considering is INSTEAD to possibly mainly use trains discounted tickets for wicked on broadway and add in Switzerland and the whole trip would be an overview, then later return to the favorites. My husband and I would be going in Sept. and have 3 weeks. We have never been to France would like to see Paris, the wine/champagne region discounted tickets for wicked on broadway and the riviera. We have never been to Switzerland would spend the least amount of time there, truly a "highlights quick overview" for this section, probably just 1 or 2 stops. We have been to Venice, Florence, Tuscany and Rome. Do not need to repeat on this trip. We only spent one day on the Amalfi Coast and would like to spend a couple days there this time as well as a night on Capri. Any suggestions on itinerary that would make the most sense for train travel? We could add in cars planes discounted tickets for wicked on broadway if it made more sense and more cost effective. We are mostly interested discounted tickets for wicked on broadway in scenery and the local vibe/food/shopping of the towns we stop in. Not spending much time on historical sites museums for this trip. Can add in stops in northern Italy if really worth the time, or just take quickest route between Amalfi Switzerland. We are coming from the U.S. and could start at either end, but prefer to end in Italy if no reason not to. Assuming it makes the most sense to use Paris Rome as our arrival/departure cities. From Paris, you can take the high speed train to Colmar (2:51) or Mulhouse (2:40) and rent a car there (it is important to rent a car in France discounted tickets for wicked on broadway because you will, after seeing Switzerland, drive back to France and cross-border rentals discounted tickets for wicked on broadway are outrageously expensive).
Colmar would make most sense if you want to see a bit of Alsace which is, as a wine region, much more beautiful than Champagne. Expect lovely scenery, quaint villages, great museums, wineries, good food etc.
